The Sault College Cougars couldn’t keep up with Durham College Lords and fell 14-1 on Saturday, September 14th at IDA Park in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
Durham College were the first to get on the board in the first when Tristan DesLauriers singled, scoring two runs.
The Lords scored six runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. Zach Rivers singled, scoring one run, Jalal Latif doubled, scoring two runs, and Connor Rodwin homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Durham added two runs in the third. Griffin Oliver doubled, making the score 10-0.
Chuck Roy earned the win for the Lords. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Diego Martinez took the loss for Sault College. The hurler went two innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking two.
Bryce Blixit led the Cougars with one run batted in. Cole Masse, Martinez, and Ben Weatherbee each collected one hit for Sault College.
Durham College tallied 10 hits in the game. DesLauriers, Evan Chong, and Oliver each collected two hits for the Lords. DesLauriers and Rodwin were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Lords. Eddie Borutskie and Quintin Earle each stole multiple bases for Durham. The Lords stole eight bases in the game. Durham College turned one double play in the game.
Game two for the Cougars of the doubleheader took place Saturday afternoon after a loss

The Cougars were the first to get on the board in the first when Travis Rainey homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Durham College tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a double by Erik Smith, and a single by Ethan Service.
The Lords took the lead in the top of the third. Smith singled, scoring two runs, to give Durham College, the leg up, 4-2.
The Lords scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Service hit a solo home run to center field, Nick King hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Ryan Mattes singled, scoring one run, Smith was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, an error scored two runs, and Baylan Mackellar drew a walk, scoring one run.
Mark Baxter earned the win for Durham College. The starter gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking two. Carter Gallivan took the loss for Sault College. The righty went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking none.
Bryce Blixit and Rainey were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Cougars. Rainey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Sault College with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Blixit stole two bases.
Durham College tallied 15 hits in the game. Smith led the Lords with four runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Mattes went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Durham College in hits. Aaron Sprague, Service, and Griffin Oliver each collected multiple hits for Durham College Varsity Baseball. Mattes stole two bases. Durham College Varsity Baseball ran wild on the base paths, tallying three stolen bases for the game. The Lords were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Smith had the most chances in the field with eight.
Sault College Cougars will travel to Sheridan College for their next game on Saturday, September 21st for a doubleheader against the Bruins.
