The Sault College Cougars have officially been crowned the 2026 Ontario Football Conference (OFC) regular season champions after completing an undefeated regular season with a convincing victory over the St. Clair Saints at Acumen Stadium in Windsor, Ontario.

Entering the afternoon matinee as the first seed with a 7-0 record, Sault College faced the second-seeded Saints, who entered at 6-1, in the final regular-season game for both programs. The matchup was a rematch of the September 12 meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, when the Cougars defeated the Saints, the 2025 OFC champions, 42-15.

With the regular-season championship on the line, the Cougars once again came away with the victory, finishing the 2026 regular season undefeated in only their second season competing in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

Cougars Strike First
Sault College opened the scoring at the 12:51 mark of the first quarter following a late hit and a 15-yard penalty against St. Clair.

With the Cougars at the one-yard line, Nick Jokic stepped in for the injured Emerson Peterkin and powered through the Saints defensive line for the touchdown. Nik Vecchio added the extra point to give Sault College an early 7-0 lead.

St. Clair answered just over two minutes later.

With nine seconds remaining before the 10-minute mark of the opening quarter, Saints running back Peyton Harris broke through and evaded two tackles on his way to a 14-yard touchdown run. Talon Sajkowski converted the extra point to tie the game 7-7.

The Cougars regained the lead late in the first quarter when St. Clair, backed up on its own two-yard line, conceded a two-point safety at 5:25.

The safety gave Sault College a 9-7 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Saints responded with a big play of their own.

At 6:28, St. Clair quarterback Quinn O’Billovich aired out a 38-yard pass to Nate Carter, a Sault Ste. Marie product. Carter bobbled the ball twice before securing it and racing eight yards into the Cougars’ end zone for a Saints touchdown.

Sajkowski converted the extra point, bringing St. Clair within 38-14.

But the Cougars answered before the quarter came to an end.

With 30.5 seconds remaining in the third, Marcus Williams was left alone at the Saints’ 53-yard line. Peterkin found Williams with a 22-yard pass, and Williams turned the reception into a 53-yard touchdown run, bringing the play 75 yards to the end zone.

Saints Add Late Points
The Saints opened the fourth quarter with a scoring opportunity when a 24-yard field-goal attempt missed at 12:04.
