Colts and Knights Open the 2026 Sault Ste Marie Girls High School Basketball Season with Wins

The 2026 Sault Ste. Marie Girls High School Basketball season officially got underway Tuesday, October 6, with four games on the schedule as the St. Mary’s Knights hosted the Superior Heights Steelhawks and the Korah Colts faced the White Pines Wolverines.

The opening night featured Junior and Senior Division action, giving teams their first opportunity to establish themselves as the high school basketball season gets underway.

Junior Division
Knights Open Season With Victory Over Steelhawks

The St. Mary’s Knights opened their Junior Division season with a strong 45-26 victory over the Superior Heights Steelhawks.

St. Mary’s received a balanced scoring effort throughout the game, led by Autumn Walker-Logan, who finished with a team-high 14 points.

Chloe Huckson added 10 points for the Knights, while Bailey Wood contributed nine.

Superior Heights was led offensively by Kyle Hemsworth, who paced the Steelhawks with 13 points. Annika Battochio and Emery Deluca each added four points.

The Knights’ defensive effort helped create separation as the game progressed, allowing St. Mary’s to secure the 45-26 opening-night victory.

Colts Take Down Wolverines
In the other Junior Division matchup, the Korah Colts defeated the White Pines Wolverines 46-34.

Nevaeh Elie led the Wolverines with 13 points, while Virginia Grawbarger added 10 as Wolverines put together a strong offensive performance.

Korah was led by an impressive 27-point performance from Aurora Aho, who accounted for the majority of the Colts’ scoring.

Despite Aho’s offensive output, the Colts were able to maintain control and come away with a 46-34 victory to begin their season.

Senior Division
St. Mary’s Rolls Past Superior Heights

The St. Mary’s Knights completed a successful opening night by defeating the Superior Heights Steelhawks 59-22 in Senior Division action.

Madelyn Pavoni led the Knights with 14 points, while Maggie Hendric finished with 13.

St. Mary’s used its offensive depth and defensive pressure to build a commanding advantage and finish with the 37-point victory.

For Superior Heights, Caidynce McCormick led the Steelhawks with eight points, while Rena Brouillard added five.

The 59-22 win gives the Knights a 2-0 start on the opening night, with victories in both the Junior and Senior divisions.

Colts Edge Wolverines in Senior Thriller
The closest game of Tuesday’s four-game schedule came in the Senior Division, where the Korah Colts defeated the White Pines Wolverines 32-27.

The five-point decision featured a strong defensive battle, with neither team able to pull away for an extended period.

Molly F. and Claire H. shared the scoring lead for Korah, with seven points apiece.

White Pines was led by Niyana Fox, who finished with 13 points.

The Colts ultimately held on for the 32-27 victory to join St. Mary’s as opening-night winners in the Senior Division.

Looking Ahead
With the opening night now in the books, attention turns to Thursday, October 8, when the four schools return to the court for another night of Junior and Senior Division basketball.

The Superior Heights Steelhawks will travel to Korah Collegiate to take on the Colts, while the White Pines Wolverines will visit St. Mary’s College to face the Knights.

Junior Division action is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, followed by the Senior Division games at 7:00 p.m.

After Tuesday’s opening night, St. Mary’s and Korah will look to build on their winning starts, while Superior Heights and White Pines will be looking to bounce back and pick up their first victories of the young 2026 season.
