CJFL Semi-Final Championships Set the Stage for the Road to the 2026 National Championship

The road to the 2026 Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) National Championship is entering its most important stretch of the season, as teams from across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario prepare for their respective semi-final championship matchups.

With the 2026 CJFL National Championship scheduled for November 8, teams will be looking to keep their championship dreams alive as the postseason unfolds in October. Nineteen teams began the 2026 CJFL season with hopes of being crowned national champions, but only a select few will advance through the semi-final round and remain in contention for the national title.

The semi-final schedule features several intriguing matchups, including the undefeated Sault College Cougars hosting the Ottawa Sooners, the defending Ontario Football Conference champion St. Clair Saints facing the London Beefeaters, and a rematch between the Regina Thunder and Calgary Colts following Calgary’s recent victory over Regina.

In British Columbia, the Langley Rams and Okanagan Sun will look to continue their postseason runs against the Vancouver Island Raiders and Westshore Rebels, respectively. Meanwhile, the Prairie Football Conference will feature the Regina Thunder against the Calgary Colts and the Saskatoon Hilltops against the Edmonton Wildcats.

Ontario Football Conference: Cougars Look to Continue Perfect Season
The Ontario Football Conference (OFC) semi-finals will feature two matchups, with the Sault College Cougars welcoming the Ottawa Sooners to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, October 10, while the London Beefeaters travel to Windsor to take on the St. Clair Saints.

The Cougars have established themselves as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 CJFL championship after completing an undefeated regular season. In their second season competing in the CJFL, Sault College finished first in the OFC standings with an 8-0 record.

Sault College will now look to carry that momentum into the postseason as it prepares for another meeting with Ottawa. The Cougars defeated the Sooners in both regular-season meetings, earning a 48-27 victory on August 29 before following it up with a 43-21 win on September 12.

The Sooners finished fourth in the OFC standings with a 4-4 record and will be looking to change the outcome in their third meeting of the season. With a championship opportunity on the line, Ottawa will need to find a way to slow down the Cougars and make the most of its offensive opportunities.

The other OFC semi-final will see the London Beefeaters travel to Windsor to face the St. Clair Saints on October 10.

St. Clair finished second in the conference with a 6-2 record, with both regular-season losses coming against Sault College. The Cougars defeated the Saints 42-15 on September 5 before earning a 45-25 victory on October 3.

Despite those setbacks, St. Clair remains a proven championship contender. The Saints captured four consecutive OFC championships from 2022 through 2025 and will be looking to continue that success in 2026.

Standing in their way are the London Beefeaters, who finished third in the conference with a 4-4 record. London fell to St. Clair 39-18 on August 29 and suffered a narrower 26-19 defeat in their September rematch.

The Beefeaters will now have another opportunity to challenge the defending OFC champions, while the Saints look to advance and remain in the hunt for another conference title.

Prairie Football Conference: Regina and Calgary Set for Rematch
The Prairie Football Conference (PFC) semi-final matchups will take place on Sunday, October 11, with the Regina Thunder hosting the Calgary Colts and the Saskatoon Hilltops travelling to Edmonton to face the Wildcats.

Regina finished first in the PFC standings with a 7-1 record, but its only regular-season loss came against Calgary on October 4.

The Colts handed the Thunder a 46-30 defeat, giving Calgary confidence heading into the rematch. The two teams previously met on August 16, when Regina earned a 27-9 victory.

Calgary finished fourth in the conference with a 4-4 record and will now attempt to carry the momentum from its recent win into Sunday’s semi-final. Regina, meanwhile, will be looking to respond after suffering its first loss of the season and protect its opportunity to advance.

The second PFC semi-final will feature the Saskatoon Hilltops and Edmonton Wildcats in Edmonton, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Hilltops finished second in the conference with a 4-4 record, while the Wildcats finished third, also with a 4-4 record.

Their regular-season meetings were split. Edmonton earned a 28-22 victory on August 16 before Saskatoon responded with a 17-13 win on August 30.

With both teams familiar with one another, Sunday’s matchup will provide a decisive opportunity to determine which club advances to the next stage of the championship race.

Saskatoon enters the postseason with a strong championship history, having captured national titles in 2025, 2023 and six consecutive seasons from 2014 through 2019. The Hilltops will be looking to add another championship season to that legacy, while Edmonton hopes to end Saskatoon’s postseason run.

British Columbia Football Conference: Four Teams Remain in Contention
The British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) will also feature two semi-final matchups, with the Langley Rams taking on the Vancouver Island Raiders and the Okanagan Sun facing the Westshore Rebels.

The Langley Rams finished first in the BCFC standings with a 9-1 record. Their only loss came on September 19 against the Westshore Rebels, who earned a 46-24 victory.

Langley will face the Vancouver Island Raiders, who finished fourth with a 5-5 record. The teams last met on August 22, when the Rams secured a 31-12 victory over the Raiders.

Vancouver Island will look to reverse that result in the semi-final, while Langley aims to continue its strong regular-season form and move closer to a conference championship.

The other BCFC matchup will feature the second-place Okanagan Sun against the Westshore Rebels.

Okanagan finished the regular season with an 8-2 record and enters the postseason as the defending BCFC champion. The Sun will be looking to repeat as conference champions and maintain their position among the league’s leading contenders.

Westshore finished third with a 7-3 record in the standings and will enter the matchup with confidence after defeating Langley during the regular season.

The Rebels and Sun met twice during the regular season. Okanagan earned a 46-23 victory on August 22 before recording a more decisive 42-7 win on September 26.

The Rebels will now face the challenge of finding a way past the defending conference champions, while Okanagan looks to continue its title defence and secure another step toward the national championship.

A Look Back at Recent CJFL National Champions
The CJFL has seen several successful programs establish themselves among the league’s top teams in recent years.

The Saskatoon Hilltops captured the 2025 national championship, adding another title to a historic run that included championships in 2023 and six consecutive seasons from 2014 through 2019.

The St. Clair Saints claimed the national championship in 2024, continuing the Ontario program’s success before adding further OFC titles in 2025.

Other recent national champions include the Okanagan Sun in 2022 and the Langley Rams in 2021. The Regina Thunder captured the championship in 2013.

With several former national champions still competing in 2026, the upcoming semi-finals will feature programs with championship experience and others looking to establish themselves among the CJFL’s elite.

The Road to November 8
As the semi-finals approach, the remaining contenders will have little room for error. Each matchup represents an opportunity to move one step closer to the ultimate prize, with conference supremacy and national championship aspirations on the line.

The Sault College Cougars will look to protect their undefeated record and continue their impressive second season in the CJFL. The St. Clair Saints will attempt to keep their championship tradition alive, while the Prairie and British Columbia contenders prepare for their own postseason battles.

With the 2026 CJFL National Championship scheduled for November 8, the October semi-finals will help determine which teams remain in contention for the national title.

After nineteen teams began the season with championship ambitions, the road to the finish line is narrowing. The next round of games will reveal which programs are ready to take the next step and keep their hopes of becoming the 2026 CJFL champions alive.
