Chaouachi, McConnell-Baker Shootout Goals Lift Thunderbirds Past Visiting Beavers

In a midweek west division matchup, the Soo Thunderbirds hosted the Blind River Beavers at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

Only 31 seconds into Wednesday’s contest, Nicholas Brady finds the back of Thunderbird rookie netminder Landon Miller to give the Beavers a 1 – 0 lead. Matthew Green and Joshua Thompson drew the assists on Brady’s second of the season.  Ethan Novello fires his third of the season at 2:36 of the second to even the game 1 – 1 for the Soo with Sam Lake notching the lone helper on Novello’s tying goal. With neither team finding the back of the net in overtime, Blind River’s Evan Fraccaro sinks a shootout goal while Brodie McConnell – Baker and Youseff Chaouachi scoring one each to give the Thunderbirds a 2 – 1 win over the Beavers.  Blind River goaltender Charlie Burns stopped 43 of 44 shots in the loss while Soo netminder Landon Miller turned away 31 of 32 shots in the shootout win in Sault Ste Marie.

The Thunderbirds will now host their cross border rival, the Soo Eagles on Friday, October 21st at the John Rhodes Centre in a 7:00 p.m start.
