On Tuesday, February 3rd at the Rankin Arena, the CASS Huskies (1-3-2) were searching for their second victory of the 2025–2026 Sault Ste. Marie Girl’s High School Hockey League season as they took on the St. Mary’s Knights (0-7-0) in a tightly contested matchup that featured momentum swings and a clutch performance from Kendall Kleist.
The Knights struck first in the opening period when Ashlyn Kobzick opened the scoring at 13:54, netting her ninth goal of the season off assists from Dana Fitzsimmons and Jasmine Wilson to make it 1–0. Kobzick added her second of the game at 5:00 with an unassisted effort, giving St. Mary’s a 2–0 advantage heading into the second period.
The Huskies came out strong in the middle frame and quickly shifted the momentum. At 5:23, Mika Stewart scored her first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to one with assists from Olivia Alton and Kenneth Shaw. Just 48 seconds later, Kendall Kleist tied the game at 2–2, burying her sixth goal of the season off a setup from Dani Stewart and Olivia Alton.
St. Mary’s briefly regained the lead at 2:28 when Maggen Guzzo scored her first of the season on an unassisted play to make it 3–2. The Huskies answered almost immediately as Kleist struck again at 1:07, scoring her seventh of the season and second of the contest on an unassisted effort to even the score at 3–3 heading into the third.
With the game on the line in the final period, it was Kleist who delivered once more. At 14:50, she completed the hat trick by scoring her eighth goal of the season, finishing a play set up by Riley Reed and Kenneth Shaw to give the Huskies a 4–3 lead — a goal that would stand as the game-winner and secure CASS’s second win of the 2025–2026 season.
The Huskies will look to build on the momentum as they return to action on February 5th and 9th. CASS will host the Korah Colts at the Thessalon Arena on February 5th with an 8:00 p.m. puck drop, followed by a matchup against the St. Mary’s Knights on February 9th at the Desbarats Arena at 11:30 a.m.
