On Wednesday, June 24th, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the Black Sox 18U hosted the Northern Michigan Patriots for a competitive doubleheader at Sinclair Yards. The evening brought great energy to the ballpark as both teams showcased strong pitching, sharp defense, and timely hitting in front of a supportive local crowd. It was a perfect summer night for baseball, highlighting the talent on both sides and setting the tone for an exciting stretch of games ahead.
Northern Michigan opened the scoring in the third after Tye Turco induced Jacob Cantanto to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Soo went back into the lead after the Patriots committed an error, and Northern Michigan committed an error, each scoring one run.
Turco earned the win for the Black Sox. The starter surrendered one hit and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Jacob Scornaiencki pitched four innings in relief for the Soo. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs while striking out none and walking two. Dakota Moon took the loss for Northern Michigan. The pitcher went three innings, giving up two runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking two.
Kolton Tremblay, Ty Cond, and Bryson Palahnuk each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Tremblay went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Isaac Cetatano, Cantanto, Eli Lalonde, and Colby Salier each collected one hit for the Patriots. Cetatano and Moon each drove in one run for Northern Michigan.
Game two of the doubleheader in Sault Ste Marie, the Black Sox rallied to top Northern Michigan 5-4.
The Soo trailed by as many as four runs during the game.
The Patriots got on the board in the first inning after Jacob Cantanto drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Black Sox tied the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a walk by Tye Turco, a walk by Bryson Palahnuk, and a fielder’s choice by Jakson Carroll.
Carroll earned the win for the Soo. The hurler allowed two hits and zero runs over three and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none. Nolan Kennedy took the loss for Northern Michigan. The pitcher went one inning, giving up one run (zero earned) on zero hits, striking out one and walking four. Kolton Tremblay began the game for the Black Sox. The starter allowed five hits and four runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two. Cam Lorrence began the game for Northern Michigan. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out five and walking none.
Turco went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Turco, Lucas DiBerardino, Aaron Keough, and Richard Cond each collected one hit for the Black Sox. The Soo had patience at the plate, amassing 11 walks for the game. Palahnuk and J.A Giallonardo led the team with two walks each. Tremblay stole two bases.
Lorrence went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Northern Michigan in hits. Kennedy, Eli Lalonde, and Blayze Most each drove in one run for the Patriots.
The Black Sox will now head to Marinette, Wisconsin to take part in the 2026 Firecracker Tournament from June 26th to 28th.
