Black Sox 18U Open Weekend at Home with Doubleheader Wins

On Saturday, June 8th at IDA Park in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the Sault 18U Black Sox hit the field for a doubleheader with game one against the visiting Sudbury Shamrock’s followed game two of the day against Team North 15U. The Black Sox are coming off two wins in Sudbury on June 1st in a doubleheader against the Shamrocks.

In game one of the afternoon, Soo Black Sox 18U easily dispatched Shamrocks 18U with an 8-2 win.

The Shamrocks got on the board in the first inning after a passed ball scored one run.

Kolton Tremblay doubled, which helped the Soo tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

A single by Zach Allard gave Black Sox the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second.

The Soo added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Caleb Walker doubled, Keyton Mousseau singled, and Chase Cerasuolo walked, each scoring one run.

Hunter Thorkilson earned the win for the Soo. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and one run over three innings, striking out seven and walking five. Hunter Levesque took the loss for Sudbury. They went five and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three. Thomas Keough collected the save.

The Black Sox tallied 12 hits in the game. Tremblay and Mousseau were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Soo. Mousseau provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Black Sox with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.

#17 led the team with one run batted in. #8 led the Shamrocks with one hit in three at bats. Sudbury had a strong eye at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. #13, Yuskiw, and #91 led the team with two free passes each. #8 stole two bases.

In game two of the doubleheader, Black Sox Storm Back To Defeat Team North 15U.

Despite trailing by as many as four runs, the Soo rallied to top Team North 15U 11-6.

Caleb Walker collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Walker doubled in the third inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

A single by Landen Creasey put Team North 15U on the board in the top of the first.

Team North 15U added two runs in the second after the Black Sox committed an error.

Team North 15U added one run in the third. Evan Ouimet singled, making the score 5-2.

The Soo tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a double by Walker, and a single by Keyton Mousseau.

The Black Sox took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Lucas DiBerardino singled, scoring two runs, to givethe hosts, the upper hand, 7-5.

Lucas Carriere earned the win for the Soo. They gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Drake Droll took the loss for Team North 15U. The lefty went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out six and walking two. Kolton Tremblay collected the save.

The Black Sox accumulated 13 hits in the game. DiBerardino, Thomas Keough, and Walker each drove in two runs for the Soo. Carriere and Hunter Thorkilson each collected multiple hits for the Black Sox. Tremblay and Walker each stole multiple bases for the Soo. The Black Sox had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. The Black Sox ran wild on the base paths, tallying eight stolen bases for the game.

Brett Rienguette led Team North 15U with three hits in four at bats. Creasey, Trent Peters, and Ouimet each drove in one run for Team North 15U. Team North 15U had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Justin Mrochek and Tanner Morris led the team with two free passes each. Team North 15U didn’t commit a single error in the field. Morris had the most chances in the field with eight.

The Black Sox will be back in action on Sunday, June 9th at IDA Park when they host the Shamrocks with a 12:00 p.m start followed by a 2:00 p.m opening pitch against Team North 15U.
