The Algoma Thunderbirds are proud to announce the addition of Ryan Zimmer to the women’s basketball program for the upcoming 2025 – 2026 OUA season. Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Zimmer brings a strong blend of talent, determination, and leadership to the court, making her a standout addition to the Thunderbirds roster.

A passionate player since the age of eight, Ryan has built an impressive basketball résumé. She has consistently represented Team Saskatchewan and Rise Above Basketball on the national stage, competing at the prestigious Nationals tournaments in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Her commitment to excellence has earned her multiple accolades, including Athlete of the Year, two Leadership Awards, and three Most Valuable Player honors.

Zimmer’s contributions aren’t limited to the hardwood — she’s also a dedicated student, earning High Honour Roll recognition throughout her academic journey. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Algoma University, continuing her drive for success both in the classroom and on the court.

“I chose Algoma U because it’s a place where everyone feels like family,” says Zimmer. Known for her relentless work ethic and team-first mindset, she adds, “I’m a hard-working student in both the classroom and on the court,” underscoring her dedication to growth and teamwork.
