Algoma Thunderbirds Open 2022 Season with 0-2 Weekend at Home

Over the September 2 – 4 weekend in Sault Ste Marie, the Algoma Thunderbird women’s and men’s soccer programs opened their 2022 OUA soccer season with hosting the Brock Badgers and the Guelph Gryphons at Superior Heights.

Algoma’s Makayla Townes stopped seven shots in the women’s 5 – 1 loss while Katie Nippard sank the Thunderbirds first goal of the season for the women while men’s goalkeeper Josh Bondac turned away five shots in men’s 4 – 0 loss to the Badgers on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, September 4th, Megan Chandler made 16 saves in the 7 – 0 loss to Gryphons while Alex Burt stopped nine shots against the Gryphons in the men’s 8 – 0 loss to Guelph.

Next up for the Algoma Thunderbirds soccer programs will be on Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th they hit the road for the first time in the 2022 when Thunderbirds take on the Western Mustangs in London, Ontario.
