Over the November 10 – 11 weekend in Sault Ste Marie, OUA action brought some highs and lows for our Thunderbirds as they faced the Western Mustangs. In Friday’s game day action, the women’s team had a close third quarter, scoring 10 points while Western scored 16. With a tough start to the game, the women were unable to bring the game back in their favour. The final score of the game was 93-40 for Western. Top scorers of the game were Allison Read and Stephanie Marin with 9 points each.
On Friday, the men kept us on the edge of our seats. Although Western led the first quarter with a 15 point lead, the men showed resilience in the second and third, scoring a couple more points than Western in an attempt to catch up. Unfortunately, come the final quarter, Western picked it back up and defeated the Thunderbirds 88-57. Top scorer of the game was Johan Germain with 18 points.
On Saturday, the women finished strong in the first quarter. Picking things up nearing the end, the women were only down by 5 points. However, the team lost to Western 95-44. Top scorer of the game was Bethany Belaktsis with 13 points.
The men were able to really pick it up in the second quarter on Saturday, scoring 7 points over Western – leaving us with a close game at halftime with a score of 46-41 for Western. The team lost the game 96-65 against Western. Top scorer of the game was Adrian Deere with 14 points.
Next weekend, the teams take to the road for the first time in this OUA season. They will be traveling down south to play games versus two different schools.
