Algoma Thunderbirds Close Out 2022 OUA Season in Waterloo with Losses to the Warriors

Over the October 22 and 23 weekend, the Algoma OUA Thunderbirds took to the road for the last time this season. In their final set of games, they faced the Waterloo Warriors. On Saturday, our women’s team kicked things off. Makayla Townes was in net, and had an incredible 12 saves throughout the game.

However, the team lost with a score of 8-0. The men’s game, we saw a great performance from Alexander Burt with 11 saves. At the 90′ mark, the team celebrated a goal by Lucas Spirkoski. The final score was 7-1 for Waterloo.

On Sunday, we saw the return of Faith Holmes, who had sat out the previous game. With their Captain back on the field, it was clear that they were ready to have a better game. We saw goals by Katie Nippard (31′) and Leigha Nippard (67′). Townes, once again, had 12 great saves. Although the team lost 6-2, they certainly brought a better performance.

Call it inspiration or a coincidence, but the men’s team also had a great game on Sunday. With a goal by Douvoy Bromfield in the 26′, the team had an early celebration in the game. Ethan Mendes De Franca followed up winning two penalty kicks. Josh Bondoc had three saves. Final score of the game was 6-3 for Waterloo.
