After Day One Rain Delay, 9U Black Sox Finish Day Two 1-1 Against the Sudbury Shamrocks

After a 3-1 record over the visiting Valley East Junior Voyageurs in Sault Ste Marie over the July 17-18 weekend at Sinclair Yards in Sault Ste Marie, the Soo 9U Black Sox hit the road for the first time since the summer of 2019. The Black Sox were to meet the Sudbury Shamrocks on July 24th and 25th, unfortunately the 9U program were rained out on day one of action.

Coach Steve McLeod told Saultsports that “we spent a day bonding as a team on Saturday with both our games cancelled due to rain. On Sunday, I was happy with the way the boys played for their first time on the road and were able to adapt to an unfamiliar field.”

“In the first game, we were up 6-3 going into the bottom of the 6th but like past games against Sudbury, they scored late with a seven run sixth inning. The kids tried their best to mount a comeback but came up just short losing 10-9. Game two we were down 3-2 after three innings and then we had a 30 minute rain delay that seemed to wake the boys up. Once the rain ended, we went on a roll with seven runs in the top of fourth. We added an insurance run in the seventh and won 10-7.

When asked about their next road trip to face the Voyageurs over the August 7th and 8th weekend, McLeod added “every practice and game the kids have been steadily improving and we’re looking to continue this trend heading into our next road trip in August.”
