On Sunday, April 16th, four U15 AAA hockey programs took to the ice for the semi finals to represent their respective associations in Sault Ste Marie at the 2023 U15 AAA All Ontario Hockey Championships with the Soo Greyhounds taking in the Upper Canada Cyclones followed by the York Simcoe Express meeting the Vaughan Kings at the Northern Community Centre.
In the opening semifinal Sunday morning, the Soo Greyhounds (host) punched their ticket to the goal medal game with a 5 – 1 win over the Upper Canada Cyclones (HEO) while the Vaughan Kings defeated the York Simcoe Express (OMHA) to represent the Greater Hockey Hockey League in the gold medal contest Sunday evening. York Simcoe and Cyclones took to the ice in a 5:00 p.m contest for the chance at winning the bronze medal at the championships in Northern Ontario.
The York Simcoe Express went on to win the bronze medal contest with a 4 – 1 upset over the Upper Canada Cyclones while the Soo Greyhounds fell to the Vaughan Kings in a 4 – 0 shutout loss in Sault Ste Marie.
