Over the February 14th and 15th weekend, the Soo U18 Greyhounds will host the Sudbury U18 Wolves for a high-stakes back-to-back series in Sault Ste. Marie. The games will be played at the John Rhodes Centre, with puck drops scheduled for 2:30 p.m on Saturday and 10:00 a.m on Sunday. The matchup features two teams firmly entrenched in the league standings. Sudbury enters the weekend sitting fourth overall with a 14-8-4-0 record, while the Soo Greyhounds hold down second place at an impressive 25-3-1-0. The Greyhounds have had the upper hand in head-to-head meetings this season, earning a 7–4 win on January 30, 2026, followed by a tight 3–2 victory on October 3, 2025, setting the stage for another competitive weekend.
Both clubs come in with momentum after February 11th contests against U16 opposition. Sudbury dropped a 4–2 decision to the Sudbury U16 Wolves, while the Soo delivered a dominant 7–0 road win over the Soo U16 Greyhounds, showcasing their offensive depth and defensive structure.
Offensively, the spotlight shines on the Soo’s Espen Escasa, currently ranked first among league scorers. The right winger has piled up 34 goals and 46 assists for 80 points in 29 games, while maintaining discipline with just 10 penalty minutes. Sudbury counters with dynamic scorer Denver Mulligan, ranked third in league scoring, posting 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in 28 games.
Special teams could play a decisive role. At home, the Soo boasts a lethal power play, converting 25 of 40 opportunities (62.5%), while Sudbury’s road power play has struggled at 5 for 33 (15.15%). On the penalty-killing side, Sudbury has been strong away from home at 82.76%, compared to the Soo’s 60% success rate on home ice.
In goal, Sudbury will rely on a tandem of Owen Lamothe and Jayden Claveau, who combine for a 3.53 goals-against average. Lamothe carries a 10-5-2 record with a 3.10 GAA, while Claveau has posted 7 wins in 14 appearances. The Soo counters with one of the league’s strongest goaltending duos. Gavin Zuccato owns a 2.65 GAA with a shutout, and Sebastien Brassard has been outstanding with 13 wins, three shutouts, and a combined team goals-against average of 2.33.
With playoff positioning, pride, and momentum all on the line, the weekend series promises fast pace, physical play, and no shortage of intensity as the Soo U18 Greyhounds and Sudbury U18 Wolves renew their rivalry in Sault Ste. Marie.
