The Sault Sabercats continued their strong start to the 2026 Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) U16 season on Saturday, June 20th, earning their fourth consecutive victory with a 40-20 win over the Scarborough Thunder at Superior Heights Field in Sault Ste. Marie.

Entering the contest, the third-place Sabercats carried a 3-0-1 record and were coming off an impressive 35-0 home victory on June 13th. The sixth-place Thunder arrived with a 2-3 record after suffering a 30-0 road loss to the York Lions the previous weekend.

Scarborough struck first at the 3:39 mark of the opening quarter when quarterback Jaiden Francis connected with Iain Dempster on an 11-yard touchdown pass to give the visitors a 6-0 advantage.

The Sabercats answered in the second quarter. At 3:28, Jairren Kaldma capped off a drive with a four-yard touchdown run to tie the game 6-6. Less than two minutes later, Sault quarterback Reegan DeZordo found Vinn Sagle with a 16-yard completion before Sagle raced 18 yards into the end zone to give the Sabercats a 12-6 lead with 1:45 remaining in the half.

The Thunder responded quickly. Francis connected with Noah Sharkey on a 10-yard touchdown pass, and Bentley Taylor-Iles added the extra point with 55.3 seconds left before halftime to give Scarborough a narrow 13-12 lead heading into the break.

The second half belonged to the Sabercats and running back Adam Provenzano.

At 7:41 of the third quarter, Provenzano broke free on a 30-yard touchdown run, shedding three would-be tacklers on his way to the end zone and restoring the lead to the home side at 18-13. Provenzano struck again at the 2:18 mark, powering in from three yards out for his second touchdown of the quarter to increase the lead to 24-13.

Just four seconds later, the Thunder conceded a rouge on the ensuing kickoff, extending the Sabercats’ advantage to 25-13.

Provenzano completed his hat trick at 6:39 of the fourth quarter when he bulldozed through the Thunder defensive line on a three-yard touchdown run. DeZordo then connected with Dylan Dewar on the two-point conversion, giving Sault a commanding 33-13 lead.

The Sabercats continued to pour on the offense. With 6:11 remaining, quarterback Davian Clarke found Kaldma in the end zone on an eight-yard touchdown pass. Mason Mazzuca added the conversion to extend the lead to 40-13.

Scarborough added one final score with 1:36 remaining when Manasseh Oladele broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run. Taylor-Iles converted the extra point to round out the scoring at 40-20.

The victory improves the Sabercats’ record to 4-0-1 and marks their fourth straight win of the 2026 U16 OSFL season. The balanced offensive attack and dominant second-half performance helped the Sabercats maintain their place among the league’s top contenders.

Next up, the Sabercats will remain at home to host the Toronto Jr. Argos on June 27th at Superior Heights Field with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Thunder will travel to Oshawa on the same day to take on the Hawkeyes in a 5:00 p.m. start.
