Playing their final game in Peterborough on Saturday, January 17th, the Soo U16 Greyhounds wrapped up their schedule at the 2026 Steve Richey Memorial Tournament of Champions with a round-robin matchup against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders.
Ajax-Pickering opened the scoring early in the first period. At 3:34, Jack Davis put the Raiders ahead 1–0, scoring his third goal of the tournament off assists from William Knight and Chayce Solomon. The Greyhounds worked to settle into the game, but the Raiders maintained control heading into the intermission.
The Raiders extended their lead in the second period on the power play. At 3:59, Davis struck again, netting his fourth goal of the tournament with helpers from Brechyn Aird and Shea Huinink to make it 2–0. Soo pushed back with increased pressure, but Raiders goaltender Tanner Gibson remained sharp, turning aside every chance.
Ajax-Pickering added two more goals in the third period to put the game away. At 4:02, Shea Huinink scored his first of the tournament, finishing a play from Liam Morgan and Hunter Medeiros. Less than two minutes later, at 2:50, Medeiros capped the scoring with a shorthanded goal, assisted by Chayce Solomon, sealing a 4–0 victory for the Raiders.
Ethan Brewer handled the goaltending duties for the Greyhounds, while Tanner Gibson earned the shutout for Ajax-Pickering.
With the tournament now complete, the Greyhounds turn their focus back to league play and a busy road stretch ahead. Soo will begin a three-game northern road swing on January 23rd in New Liskeard, facing the Cubs at 8:00 p.m., followed by back-to-back games against the Kapuskasing Flyers on January 24th at 7:00 p.m. and January 25th at 1:00 p.m.
