The championship chase is heating up at Laird Raceway as Thursday Night Thunder returns on Thursday, August 6, promising another exciting night of side-by-side racing on the fast ⅓-mile oval. With five competitive racing divisions, the fan-favourite Spectator Drags, and several championship battles tightening with every lap, race fans won’t want to miss one of the biggest nights of the summer.
One of the biggest storylines heading into Thursday’s program is the incredibly close championship battle in the Modified division. J.P. Delpaggio (#22) continues to lead the standings with 187 points, but defending against hard-charging Dustin Jackson (#61), who sits just eight points back at 179. Mark Laakso (#84) remains firmly in the hunt with 171 points, making every heat race and feature finish critical as the season enters its stretch run.
The Factory Stock division also features an intense points battle. Brad Bibeau (#80) leads the standings with 181 points, while Daniel Bibeau (#08) trails by just 20 points with 161. Dale Tucker (#4) rounds out the top three with 137 points and will be looking to gain valuable ground as the championship race continues.
In the Super Late Models, Dustin Jackson (#61) sits atop the standings with 139 points, but the fight for second couldn’t be any tighter. Both Chase Wilson (#77) and Jordan Sims (#47) are tied at 113 points, setting the stage for another thrilling night of competition among the province’s top Late Model drivers.
The Factory Four championship remains one of the closest of the season. Lucas Crosato (#22X) holds a slim two-point advantage over Will Siddall (#07), leading 162-160, while Dylan Couturier (#38F) remains third with 122 points and looks to continue his climb.
The Enduro division is also shaping up for an exciting finish. Lucas Fabbricino (#95) leads the standings with 25 points, narrowly ahead of Eric Sylvestre (#44) with 24, while Dayne Lorenzo (#19) sits close behind with 22 points, leaving little room for error over the remainder of the season.
Adding to the excitement will be the ever-popular Spectator Drags, where everyday drivers have the opportunity to race their own street-legal vehicles on the oval. Every registered driver receives $50 just to start, while the night’s winner takes home an additional $100, making it one of the most entertaining intermission events of the season. Fans can expect a full evening of family-friendly entertainment at Laird Raceway. Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m., and the first green flag is scheduled to wave just after 7:00 p.m.
Admission is $25 for adults, while children and youth 17 and under are admitted free, along with seniors aged 75 and older. Pit admission is $35 for all ages.
