After opening their three-game road trip with a hard-fought 6–5 overtime loss to the Timmins Rock on January 23rd, the Soo Thunderbirds responded in strong fashion the following night, earning a 4–1 victory over the Iroquois Falls Storm on January 24th in NOJHL action.
The Thunderbirds set the tone midway through the first period. At 12:22, Adam Pszeniczny continued his strong play, opening the scoring with his 11th goal of the season, finishing a setup from Deven Jones-McDonald to give the Soo a 1–0 lead after twenty minutes.
Soo carried that momentum into the second period and extended their advantage late in the frame. At 15:43, Gavin Killoran doubled the Thunderbirds’ lead, scoring his 14th of the season off a feed from Landon Hill. Just under three minutes later, the Soo capitalized on the powerplay when Jones-McDonald found the back of the net at 18:39 for his 16th of the season, with Pszeniczny and Jaxon Turnbull picking up the assists, pushing the lead to 3–0 heading into the third.
Iroquois Falls showed some pushback early in the final period, getting on the board while shorthanded. At 7:55, Mathieu Ouellette scored his 13th of the season, assisted by Alexandre St. Pierre, cutting the deficit to 3–1. Any hopes of a Storm comeback were quickly extinguished, however, as Wyatt Groth restored the three-goal cushion at 15:00, finishing a play from Jayden Arnold to make it 4–1.
The Thunderbirds controlled the pace for much of the night, limiting the Storm’s chances and closing out a composed road victory to improve their record on the trip.
The Soo Thunderbirds will now look to finish their road swing on a high note when they face the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a 2:00 p.m. afternoon matinee on January 24th at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. In the first two meetings between the teams back in November 2025, each club defended home ice, setting the stage for another competitive matchup to close out the trip.
