Thunderbird Rookie Shea Chornley Among Week Seven NOJHL Player of the Week

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday, October 27th that forward Shea Chornley (Soo Thunderbirds); defenceman Spencer Horgan, (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and goaltender Frédéric Cousineau (Timmins Rock) have been named its Stars of the Week for the period ending October 26.

Shea Chornley, (F) Soo Thunderbirds – In a pair of victories to complete a home-and-home sweep of the cross-border rival Soo Eagles, Chornley piled up six points to pace his club offensively.

The 18-year-old rookie from Winnipeg, Manitoba, began by registering his first NOJHL hat trick, in just his third league game, which included the game-winning goal on home ice Friday.

Coming out of the Winnipeg Bruins minor hockey system, Chornley then dished out three assists Saturday in a Thunderbirds road triumph at Pullar Stadium.

Spencer Horgan, (D) Greater Sudbury Cubs – Returning to form after missing some time out of the Cubs’ line-up, Horgan helped lead his side at both ends of the ice in wins over Blind River and Powassan.

Topping all NOJHL rearguards in scoring during the time frame, the 20-year-old blueliner from Bowmanville, Ontario, tallied in each contest and also aided on three others for a five-point week as Greater Sudbury improved to 4-0-1-0 since he got back in the lineup.

Horgan, who competed with the Quinte Red Devils AAA program prior to joining the league, has amassed more points than any other defenceman in the NOJHL since his arrival back in 2022, with 168 in 136 games played on 56 goals and 112 assists.

Frédéric Cousineau, (G) (Timmins Rock) – Getting the starting nod in two away matchups for the Rock last week, Cousineau came away victorious in each of them.

Cousineau, a 20-year-old netminder who hails from Malartic, Quebec, had back-to-back 30-plus save efforts as Timmins won in overtime at Iroquois Falls Saturday night, then swamped Kirkland Lake Sunday afternoon.

Competing in the Amos Forestiers system in Quebec during his time in minor hockey, the Rock netminder wrapped up his week with a 2-0 record, along with a 1.45 goals-against average and a save percentage of .955.
