Thunderbird Deven Jones-McDonald Among Week Two NOJHL Three Stars of the Week

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday, September 22nd that forwards Ty McKay (Hearst Lumberjacks); Brant Romaniuk (Timmins Rock) and Deven Jones-McDonald (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending September 21 while helping their respective clubs collect multiple victories.

Deven Jones-McDonald, (F) Soo Thunderbirds – Hailing from Garden River, Ont., Jones-McDonald is off to a solid start this season, posting back-to-back three-point performances over the weekend.

The skilled 17-year-old forward scored once and assisted on two others in a road victory at Espanola Friday before tallying twice, including notching the decider, and adding a helper in a triumph at French River Sunday.

Having played his minor hockey on both sides of the St. Mary’s River in Sault Ste. Marie, Jones-McDonald presently leads the Thunderbirds in offensive numbers with seven points in three games and is already well on pace to establish career single-season highs in goals, assists and points.

Ty McKay, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks – The 19-year-old from Calgary, Alta., compiled seven points in helping Hearst pick-up wins versus the Soo Eagles and Blind River Beavers over the weekend.

His efforts included notching the game-winning goal in each contest that also featured another tally and four assists as well.

With a combined 11 points in the five overall match-ups for the Lumberjacks this season, he leads Hearst in scoring and sits second in the NOJHL with his five markers and six helpers.

Brant Romaniuk, (F) Timmins Rock – A seven-point week saw the 17-year-old Timmins product move atop the Rock scoring lead.

Romaniuk banged in a trio of tallies, including a game-winner, and helped on four more markers in wins over Blind River and the Soo Eagles.

Playing previously in the North Bay Trappers minor hockey system, Romaniuk sits seven games shy of 100 in his NOJHL career while already having surpassed the century mark in points with 107.
