The Algoma Women’s Basketball program is excited to announce Sage Steadman as their first commit for the 2021/22 season. Sage is coming to the Thunderbirds from Strathmore, Alberta, and she is a 5’10 forward who attended the Edge School of Athletes.
“The Thunderbirds are gaining a very versatile and smart player, in Sage Steadman. Sage is a driven and focused athlete and her family at Edge is excited to see her compete at the U Sports level for Algoma University and continue on with her basketball career.” Said Elyse Hnatiuk, Edge Women’s Head Coach.
Sage will be enrolled in the four-year Bachelor of Arts Psychology Program.
On her spare time Sage likes to read, connect with the youth in the community and dog sit.
Sage was a part of a (3A) provincially ranked team in grade 10/11. In grade eleven her team made it to the zone’s finals but due to COVID it was unfortunately canceled. During this time, Sage has been able to continue to focus on athletics by working out at home and getting in the gym with her team when able to.
“We are getting a tough, versatile and dedicated player in Sage. Her determination to continue to grow as a player and person is something we are excited about. She will fit right into our culture. She likes to be involved in the community and that’s important to us and we look forward to her working with the kids in our Jr. Thunderbird program.” said Head Coach Ryan Vetrie.
“I chose Algoma because of the dynamic of the team. The coaching staff and players provided a warm and welcoming environment since the beginning of the recruitment process. I’ve also felt like Algoma provides the best environment for me to be pushed to succeed, not only as a basketball player but as a person too.
