At the Rankin Arena on Tuesday afternoon, the Korah Colts powered their way to a commanding win over the CASS Huskies, fueled by a dominant three-goal performance from Nikki Steinburg, who delivered one of the early season’s most impressive offensive showcases. Steinburg’s hat trick, combined with a well-balanced attack throughout Korah’s lineup, propelled the Colts to a decisive victory in Sault Ste Marie Girls High School Hockey League action.
In the first period, the Colts set the tone early with not wasting time establishing momentum. At 14:07, Nikki Steinburg opened the scoring with her first of the season, finishing a setup from Journey Tegosh to give the Colts a 1–0 lead. Just four minutes later, Sarah Sousa added her first of the year at 10:53, converting on assists from Aubrey Colletti and Harlee Cote.
CASS responded late in the frame. On a power play at 1:10, Kendall Kleist buried her first of the season, assisted by Dani Stewart and Mkenzy Jarrell, cutting the Colts’ lead to 2–1 heading into the first intermission.
Korah breaks the game open in the middle frame belonged entirely to the Colts—and especially to Steinburg.
Just seconds into the period, at 14:08, Steinburg struck again, scoring unassisted for her second of the afternoon and extending Korah’s lead to 3–1. The Colts continued to roll when Harlee Cote netted her first of the season at 13:04, assisted by Sousa.
CASS showed resilience when Riley Reed capitalized at 9:25, scoring her first of the year on a setup from Jarrell, trimming the gap to 4–2.
But Korah’s depth took over from there.
At 8:02, Sarah Sousa buried her second of the game, assisted by Cote and Steinburg, restoring their three-goal cushion. Just two minutes later, Emily Sewell scored her first of the season at 6:03 with help from Amy Clement and Journey Tegosh.
The Colts capped off a dominant period at 4:10 when Harlee Cote potted her second goal of the game, assisted by Steinburg and Sousa, giving Korah a commanding advantage heading into the third.
Th third period saw the Colts close it out with Steinburg securing the hat trick with Korah keeping the pressure on in the final frame. Aubrey Colletti scored her first of the season at 14:19 off a feed from Madison Lang and Harlee Cote, extending the lead even further.
Then, with just 33 seconds left in regulation, Nikki Steinburg completed the hat trick, scoring unassisted for her third goal of the game and cementing her status as the clear difference-maker in the contest.
Between the pipes Korah’s Britton Notte earned the win while CASS’ Claire Henshell saw action in net for the Huskies. Both goaltenders faced pressure throughout the afternoon as the offensive pace remained high from start to finish.
Up next, the CASS Huskies return to action on December 1st when they face the St. Mary’s Knights at Rankin Arena at 2:30 p.m. while the Korah Colts will also meet the Knights, doing so on December 3rd, also at 2:30 p.m. in another key early-season matchup.
