With the 2022 Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League best of three championship series tied at 1 – 1, the Korah Colts took to the ice in front of a pack house to face the St Mary’s Knights on Monday, March 28th at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
At 4:14 of the opening period, Nik Vecchio sinks the first goal of game three behind Korah netminder Matthew Gagne for the Knights to give St Mary’s a 1 – 0 lead. Luca Spadafora added the helper on Vecchio’s goal. With the Colts on a powerplay, Tyson Culina evens the game 1 – 1 with finding the back of Knight goaltender Joel Belec for Korah with two minutes remaining in the first with Brett Morgan and Joshua McIntyre notching the assists on Culina’s tying goal. Christian Omollo skates across Gagne’s crease to lift the go-ahead goal over the Korah netminder at 11:36 of the second. Tyler Luczinski and Spadafora setup Omollo’s goal. Eleven seconds before the midway mark of the championship game, Nick Kelly brings the lead to 3 – 1 for St Mary’s. Dawson Wilson and Daniel Bumbaco draws the contributors on the Knights third goal.
Ronan Provenzano pulls the Colts within one with 2:25 left in the middle stanza to send Korah into the second intermission down 3 – 2. Dylan Garson had the lone helper on Provenzano’s goal. With 7:36 remaining in the game, Bumbaco secures the win for the Knights with Michael Starzomski adding the assists on Bumbaco’s goal. St Mary’s goaltender Joel Belec stopped 10 of 12 shots will Korah netminder Matthew Gagne turned away 35 of 39 shots.

The St Mary’s Knights were award the 2022 Regular Season League and City Championship Trophy while Playoff MVP – “Art Jarrett Memorial” Trophy was awarded to St Mary’s Daniel Bumbaco.
