Stoney Creek, ON — The Soo U18AA Greyhounds officially opened their 2026–27 hockey season on the road this weekend, joining 68 teams from Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Quebec, British Columbia and communities across Ontario at the 2026 Stoney Creek Showcase.
The three-day showcase provided the Greyhounds with five games against a strong collection of competition as the team began its new season with an opportunity to test itself against teams from across North America.
Friday, September 11
The Greyhounds opened the showcase Friday morning at 9:55 a.m., facing the Central York Panthers.
Central York came away with a 4–0 victory in the season opener.
The Greyhounds returned to the ice later that afternoon for their second game of the day, taking on the Barrie Sharks at 3:20 p.m. Barrie recorded a 5–0 win, sending Soo into Saturday looking for its first victory of the young season.
Saturday, September 12
The Greyhounds responded Saturday morning.
At 8:15 a.m., Soo faced the Toronto Aeros and earned its first win of the 2026–27 campaign, defeating Toronto 2–1 in a closely contested matchup.
Later that afternoon, the Greyhounds faced another challenging opponent when they met the Pittsburgh Pens U16 Elite at 1:55 p.m.
Pittsburgh recorded a 4–0 victory, leaving the Greyhounds with a 1–3 record heading into their final showcase game.
Sunday, September 13
The Greyhounds wrapped up the Stoney Creek Showcase Sunday morning with an 8:00 a.m. matchup against the Scarborough Sharks.
Soo finished the showcase on a winning note, shutting out Scarborough 2–0 to earn its second victory of the weekend.
The Greyhounds finished the five-game showcase with a 2–3 record, scoring four goals while allowing 14.
While the results were important, the showcase also gave the Greyhounds valuable early-season experience against a diverse group of teams and provided an opportunity for the coaching staff and players to evaluate where the team stands as it begins the 2026–27 campaign.
Coach Jenna Buck told Saultsports that “our group competed hard this weekend against some elite programs from both Ontario and the US. Moving forward, our main focus is establishing consistency in our game. With that will come more goals for better success and outcomes in the games to come.”
“We finished the weekend with two wins and three losses. Offensively, Harlee Cote, Averie Atkinson, Lucy Curran, and Ava Mount found the back of the net, with Kaia Boissoneau, Meadow Woods, and Drew Rouselle driving the play and picking up assists. Defensively, Cassidy Cooke anchored us with a strong shutout performance in the placement game,” added Buck.
Next Stop: Blind River
The Greyhounds will now continue their preseason schedule against the Sudbury Lady Wolves at the Blind River Community Centre.
Soo and Sudbury are scheduled to meet twice, with game times set for 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
After a busy opening weekend in Stoney Creek, the Greyhounds will look to build on their two victories and continue developing chemistry and consistency as the 2026–27 season gets underway.
