The Soo U16 Jr. Greyhounds opened their 2026–2027 GNU18HL regular season in impressive fashion, earning three victories over the September 18–20 weekend in Sudbury. The Greyhounds began the weekend with a 4–3 overtime victory against the Sudbury U18 Wolves on Friday before falling 8–6 to the Sudbury U16 Wolves on Saturday. Soo responded in a big way Sunday morning, defeating the Sudbury U16 Wolves 10–1 to finish the weekend with a 3–0 record.

Greyhounds Rally for Overtime Win Over U18 Wolves
The Greyhounds opened the weekend Friday evening against the Sudbury U18 Wolves.

Sudbury opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period when Owen Angus scored his first of the season on the power play, with Janssen Fransen earning the assist.

Soo answered just over four minutes later. At 10:11, Jayden Fisher-Ruck scored his first goal of the season on the power play, with Lukas Maninos and Bryce Perrott picking up the assists to tie the game 1–1.

The Greyhounds took their first lead of the game early in the second period. Daniel McNally scored his first of the season at 4:09, assisted by Kadin Micomonaco, giving Soo a 2–1 advantage.

Sudbury responded at 9:16 when Angus scored his second goal of the game on the power play to tie the game 2–2. The Wolves regained the lead at 14:29 as Logan Moran scored his first of the season on another Sudbury power play.

The lead lasted only 12 seconds, however, as Fisher-Ruck scored his second of the game at 14:41. Maninos and Gregory Beckerson assisted on the goal, sending the teams into the third period tied 3–3.

Neither team could break the deadlock during the third period, sending the season opener to overtime.

Just 57 seconds into the extra frame, Hayden Brason-Doan scored his first goal of the season, with Gavyn Nevers recording the assist, to give the Greyhounds a 4–3 overtime victory.

Ben Clayton earned the win in goal for Soo, while Nicholas Rocca was between the pipes for Sudbury.

U16 Wolves Outlast Greyhounds in High-Scoring Saturday Battle

Following Friday’s overtime victory, the Greyhounds returned to the ice Saturday to face the Sudbury U16 Wolves.

Soo opened the scoring at 7:55 of the first period when Gregory Beckerson scored his first of the season on the power play. Daniel McNally and Jasper Jarratt assisted on the goal.

The Wolves answered just 22 seconds later as Blake Bubalo scored his first of the season, assisted by Maximus Falcioni.

Bubalo struck again early in the second period, scoring his second of the game at 1:33 to put Sudbury ahead 2–1. The Wolves extended their lead to 3–1 at 6:06 when Neven Brujic scored his first of the season.

Soo pulled back within one at 7:02 when Jasper Jarratt scored his first of the season, with Jayden Fisher-Ruck and Lukas Maninos assisting.

The Greyhounds completed the comeback early in the third. At 1:23, Maninos scored his first of the season to tie the game 3–3, assisted by Jeremy Jarratt.

Sudbury regained the lead at 3:35 on a power-play goal from Johnathan Croome, but Soo answered again at 6:05. Maninos scored his second of the game on the power play, with Fisher-Ruck and Jarratt recording the assists.

The game then turned into a back-and-forth offensive battle.

Ean Dumont put Sudbury ahead 5–4 at 9:08 before Blake Dubois added another goal just 21 seconds later. Jarratt responded with his second goal of the game at 10:36 on the power play, cutting the Wolves’ lead to 6–5.

Dumont scored his second of the game at 17:32 on the power play to make it 7–5. Fisher-Ruck brought Soo within one at 18:51, completing his third goal of the weekend and adding another point to his impressive opening stretch.

With the Greyhounds pressing for the equalizer, Sudbury sealed the game at 19:56 when Jonathan Valade scored into the empty net to secure an 8–6 Wolves victory.

Logan Claveau started in goal for Sudbury, while Clayton made his second consecutive start for the Greyhounds.

Greyhounds Respond With Dominant 10–1 Victory
After splitting the first two games of the weekend, the Greyhounds returned to action Sunday morning against the Sudbury U16 Wolves.

Soo came out firing and built a commanding lead during the opening period.

Jeremy Jarratt opened the scoring at 4:37 with his first goal of the season, assisted by Jasper Jarratt and Jackson Marchand.

At 9:21, Bryce Perrott doubled the lead with his first of the season. Jasper Jarratt and Hayden Brason-Doan recorded the assists.

Jarratt then added a goal of his own at 12:05, giving Soo a 3–0 advantage. Maninos and Brason-Doan assisted on the power-play goal.

The Greyhounds continued their offensive push in the second period.

Brason-Doan scored his second of the weekend at 2:09 on the power play, with Maninos and Thomas Ubaldi assisting.

Fisher-Ruck added another power-play goal at 5:10, his fourth of the season, assisted by Gregory Beckerson and Daniel McNally.

Just six seconds later, Mason McKechnie scored his first of the season, with Fisher-Ruck picking up the assist.

Brason-Doan completed his hat trick at 5:58, scoring his third of the season and third point of the game. McKechnie and Cole Braido assisted.

Soo continued to pour on the pressure at 9:28 when Kadin Micomonaco scored a shorthanded goal for his first of the season, assisted by Brason-Doan.

Fisher-Ruck then scored his second goal of the game at 17:04 to give the Greyhounds a 9–0 lead. Micomonaco and Marchand recorded the assists.

Soo added its 10th goal at 10:22 of the third period when Dante Caruso scored his first of the season, with Brason-Doan picking up his fifth point of the game.

Sudbury finally got on the board at 11:18 when Carson Barr scored his first of the season, but the Greyhounds held on for a convincing 10–1 victory.

Clayton earned his second win of the weekend in the Soo net, while Brayden Bouillon started for Sudbury.

Strong Opening Weekend for Soo
The three-game weekend provided plenty of offensive production for the Greyhounds, who finished with 20 goals across their three contests.

Fisher-Ruck led the offensive charge with multiple goals in each of the first two games before adding two more goals Sunday. Brason-Doan also had a standout weekend, including a hat trick and five-point performance in Sunday’s victory.

Jasper Jarratt and Lukas Maninos were also major contributors throughout the weekend, while the Greyhounds received scoring from a wide range of players as they opened their regular-season schedule.

After three games, the Soo U16 Greyhounds return home with a perfect 3–0 record to begin the 2026–2027 GNU18HL regular season.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, September 26, when they host the Sudbury U18 Wolves at the John Rhodes Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
