he Soo U16 AAA Greyhounds travelled to North York over the October 2nd to 4th weekend for their first tournament of the 2026–2027 season, joining more than 50 plus U16 AAA programs from across Ontario, Michigan and New York State at the 2026 Toronto Titans Tournament.
The weekend provided the Greyhounds with four games against some of the top competition in the tournament field, giving the team an opportunity to test itself early in the season and gain valuable experience against teams from outside the Sault Ste. Marie area.
Greyhounds Open Tournament With Offensive Outburst
The Greyhounds opened tournament play Friday night at 9:00 p.m against the Niagara North Stars.
Soo got on the scoreboard first when Kadin Micomonaco scored his first goal of the tournament at 10:45 of the opening period, with Jayden Fisher-Ruck and Lukas Maninos picking up the assists.
Niagara answered later in the period as Mateo Mozetic scored to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.
The North Stars took their first lead of the night early in the second period when Jackson Lostracco scored at 12:47.
The Greyhounds responded with four unanswered goals to take control of the game.
Hayden Brason-Doan tied the game at 2-2 at 9:44, assisted by Jasper Jarratt and Jeremy Jarratt.
Just over a minute later, Micomonaco scored his second goal of the tournament to put Soo back in front. Fisher-Ruck and Thomas Ubaldi assisted on the goal.
Cole Braido extended the lead to 4-2 at 4:17 of the period, with Jarratt and Gavyn Nevers recording the assists.
With just 15 seconds remaining in the second period, Fisher-Ruck added his first goal of the tournament, assisted by Jeremy Jarratt, giving the Greyhounds a 5-2 advantage heading into the third.
Soo continued to add to its lead in the final frame.
Jasper Jarratt scored at 14:24, followed by Jackson Marchand at 14:05 to make it 7-2. Nevers and Jeremy Jarratt assisted on Jarratt’s goal, while Bryce Perrott and Braido assisted on Marchand’s marker.
Niagara’s Lostracco completed his two-goal night at 10:09, but the Greyhounds held on for a 7-3 victory.
Ben Clayton was in goal for Soo, while Jack Owen started for Niagara.
Waterloo Wolves Hand Greyhounds First Loss
The Greyhounds returned to action Saturday against the Waterloo Wolves.
Waterloo opened the scoring at 9:06 of the first period when Cohen Hutchison scored his first goal of the tournament.
The Wolves added three more goals in the second period to build a 4-0 advantage.
Keaton Niereisel scored twice in the period, while Ethan Straus also found the back of the net.
Waterloo continued to add to its lead in the third period, with Gryphon Turner and Alex Clarke scoring to complete a 6-0 victory.
Lucas Martin handled the goaltending duties for the Greyhounds, while Tyler Stephenson started for Waterloo.
Little Caesars Defeat Soo in Saturday Morning Action
The Greyhounds’ third game of the tournament came in an early Saturday morning matchup against Little Caesars.
Little Caesars jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the opening period.
Micah Schwartz opened the scoring at 14:02, followed by Eddie-Bo Franzen at 3:32.
Soo managed to get on the board before the end of the period when Micomonaco scored his third goal of the tournament with just 33 seconds remaining. Lukas Maninos and Gregory Beckerson assisted on the play.
Neither team scored in the second period, leaving Little Caesars with a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame.
Little Caesars added two insurance goals in the third period.
Schwartz scored his second of the game at 13:34 to complete a four-goal tournament performance, before Zander Shank added a shorthanded goal at 9:36.
The Greyhounds were unable to close the gap, falling 4-1.
Ben Clayton was back between the pipes for Soo, while Gavin Stanford started for Little Caesars.
Whitby Wildcats Edge Greyhounds in Tournament Finale
The Greyhounds wrapped up their tournament schedule Saturday afternoon against the Whitby Wildcats.
Whitby opened the scoring at 13:52 of the first period when Myles Hodgson scored his first goal of the tournament, assisted by Landon Wallace and Cole Crumb.
That would be the only goal of the game.
Neither team found the back of the net during the remainder of the first period, and there was no scoring in either the second or third periods.
The Greyhounds were unable to find the equalizer as Whitby held on for a 1-0 victory.
Soo used both Ben Clayton and Lucas Martin in goal during the game, while Dhilan Kapur was the goaltender for Whitby.
Valuable Weekend of Competition
The Toronto Titans Tournament provided the Soo U16 AAA Greyhounds with four games against a diverse group of opponents and an opportunity to experience tournament hockey early in the 2026–2027 season.
Soo opened the weekend on a high note with a 7-3 victory over Niagara North, with Micomonaco leading the offensive attack with two goals. He finished the tournament with four goals overall, including the Greyhounds’ lone goal against Little Caesars.
While the Greyhounds were unable to add another victory after their opening game, the weekend gave the team an important opportunity to compete against programs from throughout Ontario and the United States.
The tournament experience will serve as another building block as the Greyhounds continue their season and prepare for their upcoming Greater Northern U18 Hockey League action.
The Greyhounds will now return to Sault Ste. Marie and prepare to host the Kapuskasing Flyers at the John Rhodes Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
With tournament competition now behind them, the Greyhounds will look to carry the lessons and experience from Toronto into their next stretch of GNU18HL action.
