Soo Thunderbird Shea Chornley Among Week Eleven NOJHL Stars of the Week

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday, November 24th that forward Mason Walker (Greater Sudbury Cubs); defenceman Braedyn Cyr (Timmins Rock) and forward Shea Chornley (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Three Stars of the Week for the period ending November 23.

Mason Walker, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs – Walker, who turns 17 Wednesday, registered back-to-back four-point outings last week for the surging Cubs.

He began with two goals and a couple of assists Thursday in a victory over Iroquois Falls, then followed up with a another marker and a trio of helpers in a positive road result in Kirkland Lake Saturday.

A former standout in the Great North U18 Hockey League where he was second overall in scoring with his hometown Sudbury Wolves U16 AAA side in 2023-24, Walker has only been held off the game sheet once in 11 games so far this season with the Cubs, amassing 25 points, including 13 goals.

Braedyn Cyr, (D) Timmins Rock – The Rock captain did his part offensively and defensively in a pair of road victories over the weekend as he picked up three points from the backend and was not on the ice for any of the four goals-against his club allowed.

The 20-year-old Oakville, Ontario product helped set-up the game-winner in a decision at Powassan Friday, then dished out two more assists in a Timmins triumph versus French River on Saturday as the Rock extended a winning streak to nine.

With points in four straight games, as well as in seven of his past eight, Cyr, who comes out of the Oakville Rangers minor hockey system, has moved into a tie for sixth in NOJHL scoring among defencemen with his two tallies and 14 helpers.

Shea Chornley, (F) Soo Thunderbirds – Doing his part, the first-year NOJHL forward provided a pair of two-point contributions to help Sault Ste. Marie go into Hearst and sweep a weekend set against the Lumberjacks.

The 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba started with two assists, including the primary one on the game-winner Saturday, then scored and aided on one more marker Sunday.

A product of the Winnipeg Bruins AAA program, Chornley has averaged a point-per-game since joining the T-Birds back in mid-October with 14 in as many outings, including five tallies.
