Soo Thunderbird Jackson Mead Named NOJHL Rookie of the Month for September

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Thursday, October 1st that Maxx Hamelin (Timmins Rock); Julien Trudel (Hearst Lumberjacks); Ayden Mullen (Timmins Rock) and Jackson Mead (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Forward, Defenceman, Goaltender and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for September.

FORWARD: Maxx Hamelin, Timmins Rock – The Rock captain piled up a dozen points for his squad, including a trio of multi-point efforts.

Hamelin also notched six goals along the way, while two of his half-dozen assists came on game-winners.

The 19-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba product enters October leading Timmins in offensive production.

DEFENCEMAN: Julien Trudel, Hearst Lumberjacks – Wearing the ‘C’ for Hearst, Trudel topped all league blueliners in scoring to wrap up the first month of the season.

Hailing from Belle Vallee, Ontario, the 20-year-old rearguard etched his name on the game sheet in all six of the Lumberjacks outings in September with two tallies, featuring a deciding marker, and seven helpers.

A veteran of 157 contests, all in Hearst, Trudel is well on pace to establish personal single-season bests in goals, assists and points.

GOALTENDER: Ayden Mullen, Timmins Rock – The second-year netminder led the league in victories during the period, winning all four starts he made for the Rock.

The 17-year-old from Kingston, Ontario sported a 2.00 goals-against average, along with a sharp .952 save percentage.

Mullen also made 157 saves last month in 240 minutes of game action.

ROOKIE: Jackson Mead, (F) Soo Thunderbirds – A consistent time frame saw the 16-year-old from Sudbury collect at least one point in his final six contests of the month as well as in seven of eight.

Mead banged in four markers, with two being deciding efforts, while one of his four assists aided on a winning goal.

He is currently the third-youngest player in the NOJHL and leads all 2010-born skaters in scoring.
