Soo 18U Black Sox Split Doubleheader Against Valley East Voyageurs on the Road

Coming off a one tie and loss to the Valley East Jr Voyageurs in Sault Ste Marie on August 18th at Sinclair Yards, the Soo Black Sox hit the road for a double header on Wednesday, August 25th against the Voyageurs at Terry Fox Complex in Sudbury in 18U baseball action.

Game One (12:00 p.m)
Soo Black Sox 18U built a six-run lead in the second inning and then held off Valley East Voyageurs’s charge for a 6-4 victory on Wednesday. Valley East Voyageurs scored four runs in the failed comeback on an error.

Soo Black Sox 18U earned the victory despite allowing Valley East Voyageurs to score four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by Valley East Voyageurs was led by A Frawlen and Cam Bauer, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Soo Black Sox 18U got on the board in the first inning when Wesley Pomeroy tripled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Soo Black Sox 18U notched four runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Cole Masse and a fielder’s choice by Ty Beaupre.

Connor Bruzas was the winning pitcher for Soo Black Sox 18U. The right hander surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Martin Audette took the loss for Valley East Voyageurs. The pitcher went two innings, allowing six runs on four hits.

Beaupre led Soo Black Sox 18U with two hits in four at bats.

Game Two (3:00 p.m)
A walk-off left Soo Black Sox 18U on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Valley East Voyageurs on Wednesday. The game was tied at eight with Valley East Voyageurs batting in the bottom of the seventh when Ethan Morris singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Soo Black Sox 18U collected eight hits and Valley East Voyageurs had 11 in the high-scoring affair.

After Soo Black Sox 18U scored four runs in the top of the fourth, Valley East Voyageurs answered with four of their own. Soo Black Sox 18U scored when Wesley Pomeroy singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Connor Bruzas grounded out, scoring one run, Michael Starzomski singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for Soo Black Sox 18U. Valley East Voyageurs then answered when Josh Blake singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and Ryan Lacrosse singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Noah Leveille pitched Valley East Voyageurs to victory. Leveille went one inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking one. Nico Signorile and A Frawlen entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Carmine Perna took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. The pitcher went one-third of an inning, allowing one run on two hits and walking zero.

Lacrosse started the game for Valley East Voyageurs. The hurler lasted two innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one Cole Masse started the game for Soo Black Sox 18U. Masse allowed nine hits and eight runs over six innings, striking out four.

Soo Black Sox 18U collected eight hits. Bruzas, Pomeroy, and Starzomski all managed multiple hits for Soo Black Sox 18U. Starzomski, Pomeroy, and Bruzas all had two hits to lead the Soo Black Sox 18U.

Valley East Voyageurs collected 11 hits on the day. Morris and Lacrosse all collected multiple hits for Valley East Voyageurs.
