On Thursday, April 29th that Algoma Varsity Athletics is excited to announce that Kaila Fong from Vancouver, British Columbia has committed to the Thunderbird Women’s Basketball team for the upcoming 2021/22 season. Kaila is a 5’4-point guard who attended John Oliver Secondary School.

In her spare time Kaila enjoys being outdoors and doing activities such as hiking and camping.

Head Coach of Women’s Basketball Ryan Vetrie said: “Kaila is a dynamic point guard who led her team to the BC Provincials. She is going to be able to play the pace in which we want to play. She is quick to get up the floor and really pushes the pace with her passing abilities. She is able to get in the paint to create space for herself and her teammates. She wants to grow as a player, a person and impact the community. We are excited to have her as part of our program.”

This is what Kaila had to say about the opportunity to attend Algoma University and be a part of the women’s basketball team: “I chose Algoma because of their growing basketball program and Coach Vetrie’s determination and commitment to the program. I’m excited to create new relationships with the team and grow as a player at the next level.”
