Greyhounds Sweep Weekend with Back-to-Back Wins Over Visiting Flyers

After a tough start on the road in North Bay, where they dropped back-to-back one-goal games to the Trappers, the Soo U18 Greyhounds bounced back in emphatic fashion during their home season opener at the Northern Community Centre. On Friday, September 26th, the Greyhounds lit up the scoreboard, cruising to a lopsided win over the visiting Kapuskasing Flyers.

The Soo wasted no time taking control. Anthony Spironello opened the scoring at 10:06 of the first, finishing a feed from Liam Clark and Myka Venneri for his first of the season. Less than two minutes later, Jacob Vincent doubled the lead with his second of the year, striking on a penalty shot. The Greyhounds kept pouring it on as Jackson Thornton netted his first of the campaign at 15:50, followed by Makks Demidovich burying a power-play marker at 17:46 to make it 4–0.
The second period was even more one-sided, as the Hounds erupted for six goals. Demidovich struck again on the power play just 1:42 in, and shortly after, Dreyon Boissoneau added another man-advantage tally at 4:09. Clark made it 7–0 midway through the frame, before Finlay Escasa joined the party less than a minute later with his first of the season. Spironello’s second goal at 12:15, and a power-play marker from Nathan Dupuis at 16:49, gave the Soo a commanding 10–0 edge through 40 minutes.

The Greyhounds didn’t slow down in the third. Dupuis tallied his second of the night at 6:11, followed a minute later by Frankie Reda extending the lead to 12–0. Hunter Thorkilson added an unassisted marker at 13:19, and Reda capped the scoring with his second of the period at 14:40, sealing a statement win in front of the home crowd.

Goaltender Sebastien Brassard earned the shutout in net for the Greyhounds, holding off the Flyers’ limited chances, while Kapuskasing’s Alexandre Gravel was under siege throughout the contest.

With the victory, the Soo U18 Greyhounds earned their first win of the 2025–26 GN U18HL season in convincing fashion, setting the tone for the rest of their home-opening weekend series.

After a dominant showing in their home opener, the Soo U18 Greyhounds capped off their weekend series against the Kapuskasing Flyers with another convincing performance, skating to an 8–3 victory in an early Sunday morning clash at the John Rhodes Community Centre in GNU18HL action.

Dupuis continued his hot streak at 10:28 with his fifth of the year, while Bossio completed his hat trick at 11:48 to push the lead out of reach. The Flyers found a late response with Paul Harris netting a power-play goal at 15:56, but Bossio capped the scoring with his fourth of the game at 16:43 to seal the Soo’s weekend sweep in dominant fashion.
