Over the September 27th and 28th weekend, the Soo U15 Greyhounds put on a dominant showing at home in Sault Ste. Marie, sweeping the North Bay U15 Trappers in three straight Northern Ontario AAA Hockey League (NOHLAAA) matchups.
In the opening game of the weekend at 12:00 p.m on September 27, the Greyhounds set the tone early in the series with a strong 5–1 victory.
In the opening period, Gavyn Nevers struck first at 5:28 with his third of the season, assisted by Jayden Fisher-Ruck. Minutes later, Wyatt Jarrett extended the lead on the power play, with help from Lukas Maninos.
The second period saw the Trappers cut into the lead when Dustin Primeau scored his first of the season, assisted by Beau Kozmick. But the Hounds quickly responded—Hayden Brason-Doan restored the two-goal cushion, assisted by Benjamin Campbell and Jarrett. Fisher-Ruck then converted on a power play at 5:08, assisted by Nevers and Haydon Eby.
Brason-Doan added his second of the game in the third period, assisted by Jasper Jarratt, sealing the 5–1 win.
Goaltender Benjamin Clayton earned the victory for the Greyhounds, while Logan Claveau took the loss in net for North Bay.
Game two took place September 27 at 6:30 p.m with the Greyhounds carrying momentum into the evening matchup, skating to a 4–1 win.
In the first period, Haydon Eby opened the scoring at 14:04 with help from Kadin Micomonaco, followed by Jarratt’s goal assisted by Brason-Doan.
The Trappers got on the board in the second period with a power-play marker from Ryder Penny, assisted by Kaleb Boucher and Johnny Langlois. But the Greyhounds answered back quickly—Nevers struck again at 1:32, assisted by Eby.
Late in the third period, Maninos iced the game with a goal at 19:50, assisted by Brason-Doan and Barrett McCabe.
Carter Rome backstopped the Greyhounds to the win, while Nash Hinksman took the loss for North Bay.
Game three on Sunday, September 28th morning contest, the Greyhounds capped off their perfect weekend with an explosive 5–0 shutout.
In the opening frame, Dante Caruso scored at 10:26, assisted by Fisher-Ruck and Bryce Perrott, before Jarrett doubled the lead at 7:46 with help from Brason-Doan.
The second period belonged entirely to the Hounds. Maninos scored unassisted at 3:22, followed by Thomas Ubaldi’s tally at 2:19, assisted by Fisher-Ruck. With just 42 seconds left in the frame, Nevers added another, assisted by Eby and Campbell.
Clayton earned his second win of the weekend in net, shutting the door on the Trappers. Claveau was tagged with the loss for North Bay.
With three straight wins, the Soo U15 Greyhounds flexed their depth and offensive firepower. Multiple players contributed across the scoresheet, including standout weekends from Brason-Doan, Nevers, Jarrett, and Maninos. The Hounds also showcased steady goaltending from Clayton and Rome, combining for just two goals against in three games.
The sweep gives the Greyhounds strong early-season momentum as they continue their NOHLAAA season.
Greyhound coach Cole Jarrett told Saultsports that “it was nice to get three wins for sure and push our total to ten straight to start the season. We had lots of changes from last season and the new players have seized the opportunity and hopefully we can continue to run with it.”
The Greyhounds now take to the road to take part in the Alliance Showcase over the October 4th and 5th weekend in Windsor, Ontario. The Soo’s opponents will be the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks (October 4 – 11:30 a.m), London Jr Knights (October 4 – 8:00 p.m), and Huron Perth Lakers (October 5 – 10:30 a.m).
