After a 4–2 setback in Kirkland Lake the previous night, the eighth-place (8-14-0-1) Soo Eagles rebounded in a big way on Saturday, November 15th, earning a hard-fought 4–2 victory over the fifth-place (12-5-0-2) Powassan Voodoos at the Powassan Sportsplex in NOJHL action.
Powassan opened the scoring at 10:51 of the first when Owen Head notched his sixth of the season, but the Eagles responded just under four minutes later as Logan Stawizynski buried his 10th, set up by Lucas Caulfield, sending the game to the intermission tied 1–1.
The second period featured a flurry of momentum shifts. The Voodoos regained the lead at 5:31 with a power-play marker from Anthony Boyes, but from there the Eagles took over. Anden Marceau evened the score at 13:11 with an unassisted effort before Ilian Danilov capitalized on a turnover at 16:02, also unassisted, giving the Eagles their first lead of the night.
In a tight-checking third period, Powassan pushed for the equalizer, but it was Marceau who sealed the win with his second of the game and 20th of the season, finding the empty net with just 16 seconds remaining.
Between the pipes, Eagles netminder Jace Knoerle was solid, turning away 25 of 27 shots, while Powassan’s Derrick Champagne stopped 17 of 21.
With the bounce-back win, the Eagles look to carry the momentum into another road matchup on Friday, November 21st, when they head to Noelville, Ontario to take on the French River Rapids in NOJHL action.
