Eagle Rookie Micah Seery Among NOJHL Week Five Players of the Week

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday, October 13th that rookie trio of forward Jax Pereira (Powassan Voodoos); goaltender Ayden Mullen (Timmins Rock) and defenceman Micah Seery (Soo Eagles) have been named its Stars of the Week for the period ending October 12.

Jax Pereira, (F) Powassan Voodoos – The first-year forward scored in all three games Powassan had last week, which were all victories away from home.

Pereira, a 16-year-old from Uxbridge, Ont., notched four markers in total, including collecting a game-winner in overtime, and also doled out a pair of assists to average two points-per-game in the time frame.

Coming out of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens minor hockey system, Pereira has moved into ninth in NOJHL rookie scoring with nine points in just six contests.

Ayden Mullen, (G) Timmins Rock – Getting the nod twice last week, the Rock first-year goalkeeper from Kingston, Ont., came away victorious in each appearance for Timmins.

In all, the former Quinte Red Devils U16 AAA stopper, finished with a 1.00 goals-against average and an equally solid .966 save percentage while posting his first league shutout, which came versus first place (points wise) Hearst at the NOJHL Showcase. He also picked up a win against Iroquois Falls.

Mullen, 16, currently sits third among all league netminders in both GAA (2.25) and SV% (.934). He’s also tied for top spot in shutouts (1) and has won each of his past three starts.

Micah Seery, (D) Soo Eagles – Stepping up a big way at both ends of the ice, Seery’s contributions helped the Eagles pick up their first three victories of the season, in four games played.

Hailing from Bloomingdale, Ill., the 17-year-old blueliner had a goal, which was a game-winner, and chipped in with five assists.

Joining the Eagles from the Team Illinois program, Seery’s offensive output last week moved him into top spot in NOJHL scoring among defencemen with 11 points on three tallies and eight helpers.
