The Northern Community Centre in Sault Ste. Marie played host to a dominant showing by the Sault College Cougars on Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th, as they swept the visiting Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in back-to-back ACHA Division II women’s hockey games. Across both contests, the Cougars showcased their depth, speed, and scoring touch, combining for an impressive offensive outburst that powered them to two convincing victories.
Game one, the Cougars explode for seven in the first period with a statement performance from Sault College, who erupted for seven goals in the opening period to take full control. Just 28 seconds in, Payton Stos set the tone with her seventh of the season, finishing a setup from Danika West and Taryn Sullivan. Less than four minutes later, Katelynn Jacques buried her 11th of the year off a feed from Emma Lee. Lee then added a goal of her own at 7:24, assisted by Jacques, before Materia Land made it 4–0 on the powerplay at 13:39.
The Cougars weren’t done yet—only 14 seconds after Land’s goal, Amelia Williams struck for her second of the season, and later at 17:26 she added another, this time shorthanded after a strong setup from Sullivan and Stos. Zoe Weaver capped off the explosive opening frame with an unassisted marker at 19:39.
Lawrence Tech got on the board early in the second period with a goal from Jordyn Bebus, but the Cougars quickly regained control. At 17:53, West scored her fifth of the season with Stos earning another assist. In the third, rookie Gracie Dale recorded her first collegiate goal, while Weaver added her second of the night on a powerplay at 15:32. A late goal from Addy Langton closed the scoring for the Blue Devils, but Sault College secured a resounding win behind steady goaltending from Farrah Farstad.
Game two saw Land leading the charge with four-goal performance in Saturday’s rematch picking up right where they left off. Lily Wallsmith opened the scoring at 16:56 with her first of the season, assisted by Stos, and just seven seconds later, Materia Land scored her seventh of the year on a play set up by Lee and Jacques.
Land continued her standout weekend early in the second period, scoring unassisted at 2:03 before Jacques added her 12th of the season just 18 seconds later. At 7:02, Land completed the hat trick—her ninth of the season—off a passing play from Lee and Jacques. Lawrence Tech responded with a powerplay goal from Kathleen Fennessy late in the period, but the Cougars still carried a comfortable lead into the final frame.
The third period was all Sault College again, as Land scored her fourth of the night at 2:02—her 10th of the season—followed by a quick-strike goal from Lee at 6:08. Wallsmith added her second of the weekend at 7:03, and Taryn Sullivan sealed the game with a late marker at 19:40. Danali Forsyth stood tall in net, backstopping the Cougars to another decisive win.
