On Saturday, October 12th, the Sault College Cougars hit the road for their final games of the 2024 OCAA season when they faced the Fanshawe Falcons in London, Ontario for a doubleheader. The Sault College Cougars faced a challenging doubleheader to close out the 2024 OCAA weekend, ultimately falling to the Fanshawe Falcons in both matchups. Despite showcasing moments of tenacity and skill, the Cougars struggled to find their rhythm, leading to a pair of tough losses. Each game presented its own set of challenges, with missed opportunities and tough defensive plays from the opposition hampering the Cougars’ efforts.
Fanshawe was the first to get on the board in the second when a wild pitch scored one run.
Travis Rainey stole home, which helped Sault College tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.
The Falcons flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Will Baltrusianas following a 6-pitch at-bat that drove in two.
Alex Miller earned the win for Fanshawe. The starter gave up four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking two. Carter Gallivan took the loss for Cougars. The righty went six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking two.
Ben Weatherbee, Rainey, Bryce Blixt, and Brooks Aylward each collected one hit for Sault College. Rainey stole two bases. The Cougars turned one double play in the game.
Fanshawe collected nine hits in the game. Baltrusianas led Fanshawe Falcons with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Charlie Bowman led the Falcons with three hits in three at bats. Nolan Rice and Connor Smith each collected multiple hits for the Falcons.
In game two of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, the Cougars fell to the Falcons.Sault College could not keep up with Falcons 7-2 on Saturday.
Fanshawe got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Marcus Normandin singled, Jamie Lavlor doubled, Will Baltrusianas doubled, and Connor Smith singled, each scoring one run. The Falcons added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Charlie Bowman hit a sacrifice fly, and Normandin hit into a double play, each scoring one run.
Owen Krauter earned the win for the Falcons. The pitcher gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Nolan Toni pitched five innings in relief for Sault College. The reliever surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) while striking out two and walking three. Owen Daynard took the loss for the Cougars. The starter went one inning, surrendering six runs on six hits, striking out one and walking one.
Spencer Sundin, Sault College’s number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Ben Weatherbee and Sundin each drove in one run for the Cougars. The Cougars turned two double plays in the game.
Bowman went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Trevor Loebach, Bowman, Nolan Rice, Baltrusianas, Smith, Normandin, Lavlor, and Aiden Choo each collected one hit for the Falcons. Loebach and Smith each stole multiple bases for Fanshawe. The Falcons stole six bases in the win over the Cougars to close out Sault College’s 2024 OCAA season.
