The Korah Senior Girls soccer team returned home on Saturday, June 8th after a successful showing at OFSAA’s ‘AAA’ Girls Soccer Tournament in Windsor on June 6th to 8th. This is the team’s second OFSAA showing in three years. The girls were eliminated in the quarterfinals after a strong performance. The Korah team faced schools with over 2500 students and with some of the best soccer players in the province.
Throughout the tournament, the girls were resilient in their play, played very disciplined and composed, and were very effective at the counter-attack. The girls played their best soccer of the season.
The girls finished the round robin with two wins and two ties, and qualified for the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, the team continued their fantastic play and with 10 minutes left in the game their opponent was finally able to score despite the girls’ best effort to shut down a very talented team.
In addition to the players’ success on the field, they were awarded the OFSAA 2024 Sportsmanship Award. Many of the volunteers and coaches at the tournament brought Korah team’s name forward for this award and countless reports of the kindness, respectful behaviour and wonderful personalities of the players. And along with this, the girls were gracious in sharing their bus with an opponent they played earlier, as their
bus broke down.
The coaching staff, comprised of Marco De Rubeis and Kim Policicchio are very proud of the girls for their performance, and very honoured to coach such a great group of girls.
Along with this success at OFSAA, the Korah Soccer Program, both boys and girls, had a great year with a couple of city championships. Korah Soccer’s future looks very bright as the school will now be offering a senior soccer course this coming school year.
