After a 4 – 1 win for the Soo Eagles at the Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan on March 10th in game one of the best of three series between Eagles and Elliot Lake Wildcats, the series return to action on March 11th in Elliot Lake at the Centennial Arena for game two.
Jacob Kelly sinks the first goal of the game 4:17 into the opening period for the Wildcats with Brennan Kelly and Leejay Meguinis adding the helpers on Kelly’s goal. Roman Gaudet pulls the Eagles even at 12:24 of the period on a Soo goal with Brent Jones and Nicholas McKeeby registering the contributors on Gaudet’s tying goal. Gaudet gives the Soo a 2 – 1 lead at the 14:28 mark of the first with William Casey and Nick Trecroce notching the assists on Gaudet’s power play marker. Curtis Rawn sends the hosts into the first intermission even at 2 – 2 with a Wildcat goal at 17:07 with David Elford and Evan Spencer drawing the helpers.
William Casey finds the back of Elliot Lake netminder Kade Phipps’ net at 14:57 of the second with Jacob Palmerio and Adam Ostrowski setting up Casey’s goal. Spencer sunk the tying goal for Elliot Lake at 15:54 of the final period with Jacob Kelly and Brennan Kelly adding the assists. 5:04 into the first overtime, defenseman Leejay Meguinis gives the Wildcats a 4 – 3 overtime win to even the series 1 – 1 with a pass from Troy Button. Eagle goaltender Kape Phipps made 43 saves for the Soo while Matt Kostiw turned away 36 of 39 shots to lead the Wildcats to a 4 – 3 win to send the series back to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.
Game three will be on Tuesday March 14th at the Pullar Stadium for a 7:30 p.m start with the winner meeting the first place west division Soo Thunderbirds.
