On Thursday September 29th in Sault Ste Marie High School Senior Football action, the (0 – 3) White Pines Wolverines headed across town to face the (3 – 0) Steelhawks at Superior Heights. In the opening game of the season between these two teams, the Steelhawks defeated the Wolverines with a score of 47 – 15 at Rocky DiPietro Field.
On offence for the Steelhawks, Cooper Laframboise ran the ball on six carries for a total of 57 yards with two touchdowns coming on two and six yard carries. Scoring a touchdown for Superior Heights was Elijah Yandeau who had a total of 88 yards on eight carries while running the ball into the Wolverines end zone on a 33 yard carry. Adding two touchdowns on a five yard run and a catching a eight yard pass from Steelhawk quarterback Noah Griggs, Issac Belisto helped Superior Heights a 45 – 7 win over White Pines.
Griggs had six completions on eight attempts for a total of 180 yards passing. Robert Right had the other touchdown for the Steelhawks at Superior Height. White Pines lone touchdown came on a 13 yard pass from Wolverine quarterback Lucas Higham who found Issac Smithers. Smithers ran the ball into the Steelhawks after a 24 yard run.
Jacob Fecteau led the Wolverines on defense with a total of 38 yards on 13 carries. Before leaving the second quarter with a knee injury, Wolverine Tristan Marshall six carries for 25 yards for White Pines.
In week five action, the Wolverines will face the St. Mary’s Knights at Superior Heights in a 4:15 p.m kick – off on October 7th while the Steelhawks will meet the Korah Colts in a 4:15 p.m start on October 6th at Superior Heights.
