The first place west division (44-5-2-1) Soo Greyhounds were in Erie, Pennsylvania on February 10th to for their second game of their three game road trip to face the fifth place (15-28-6-3) Erie Otters in Ontario Hockey League action. The Greyhounds headed to Erie coming off a 4 – 3 win over the Niagara Ice Dogs on February 8th in St. Catharines.
Only ten seconds into the game, Morgan Frost finds Taylor Raddysh to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead on Raddysh’s 26th of the 2017 – 2018 season. At 3:12 of the period, Erie’s Ryan Martin fires the tying goal behind Greyhound goaltender Tyler Johnson to even the game 1 – 1 with Troy Lajeunesse and Joseph Mack drawing the helpers on Martin’s goal. 5:15 into the first, Hayden Verbeek scores his 19th of the season on the Soo’s go – ahead goal with Jacob LeGuerrier and Keeghan Howdeshell notching the contributors on Verbeek’s goal. Finding the back of the Otter’s net for his second of the contest at 16:50 of the opening period to bring the lead to 3 – 1. Tim Gettinger and Howdeshell had the assists on Verbeek’s goal.
Noah Carroll increases the lead to 4 – 1 with his fifth on the season with Gettinger and Verbeek setting up Carroll’s insurance goal 2:04 into the second period. Jack Kopacka fires his 23rd of the season with Ryan Roth sending the pass at 8:24 of the period. Registering his 29th of the season shorthanded, the Soo’s Gettinger gives the visitors a 6 – 1 lead at 13:06 with Noah Carroll and Mac Hollowell adding the helpers. With 3:50 left in the middle stanza, Kurtis Henry finds the back of Johnson’s net for Erie’s second of the game at the 16:10 mark of the period. Maxim Golod and Jack Duff drew the assists on Henry’s goal. Greyhound goaltender Tyler Johnson stopped 18 of 20 shots in the Soo’s 6 – 2 win over the Otters.
The Greyhounds will now round out their three game road trip when the head to Hamilton on February 11th to meet the Hamilton Bulldogs in a 2:00 p.m puck drop.
