Varsity Sabercats Fall in North Division Final to Wolverines in Peterbourgh

On Saturday July 29th, the varsity Sault Sabercats took to the field in the OFC Football north division final against the Peterbourgh Wolverines in Peterbourgh, Ontario at Thomas A Stewart High School. The Sabercats fell to Wolverines 35 – 13 in week one of the 2017 season in Sault Ste Marie.

With time ticking down with less than a minute left in the north division final at the Sault needing one touchdown to tie the game, quarterback Ryan Yost finds Tyler Holub in the Wolverines end zone, unfortunately the ref called Holub’s catch out of bounds to give Peterbourgh a 16 – 10 north division win over the Sabercats. Sabercat Rob Wright caught a touchdown pass from Yost for the Sault’s lone touchdown of the game. Stats from the north division final were not available from Peterbourgh.

Sabercat coach Matt Premo told Saultsports that “our guys battled hard right to the last second of the game and showed a lot of character. I couldn’t be prouder of this group they played their hearts out today. We had some struggles offensively today but our defence held us in the game and gave us a chance at the end of the game to win.”
