Thunderbirds Edge to Eagles in NOJHL Action at the Pullar

The second place Soo Thunderbirds headed across the St. Mary’s River to meet their cross border rivals on November 10th against the fourth place Soo Eagles in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season action at the Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.

At 2:45 of the third, Jake Lamberty sinks the first goal of the game behind Thunderbird goaltender Brandon Gordon to give the Eagles a 1 – 0 lead. Jonathan Lakhani and Matt Capisciotto drew the helpers on Lamberty’s goal. Tyler Malpass evens the game 1 – 1 for the visitors. Alex Acosta and Brendan Miller had the assists in the tying goal for the Thunderbirds at 9:25 of the period. With 4:13 left in the contest, veteran Nick Smith fires the game winner for the Thunderbirds with Robert Calisti and Kaidan McDonald registered the contributors on Smith’s winning goal to give the visitors a 2 – 1 win. Thunderbird goaltender Brandon Gordon stopped 39 of 40 shots while Eagle netminder Carter McPhail turned away 21 of 23 on Friday evening at the Pullar Stadium.

The Thunderbirds will head to Elliot Lake on November 12th to meet the fifth place Wildcats in a west division 7:00 p.m match – up while the Eagles return to action on Thursday November 16th in a 7:00 p.m start in Chelmsford to meet the Rayside Balfour Canadians in a west division clash.
