Thunderbird Stevenson Comes Agreement with OHL Guelph Storm

Keegan Stevenson of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Soo Thunderbirds has come to a player standard agreement with the Ontario Hockey League Guelph Storm.

The 2000 birth year Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native played his first junior season with the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario based Canadian Junior Hockey League junior ‘A’ franchise during the 2016 – 2017 season. Keegan was drafted in the sixth round and 102nd overall in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection draft by the Guelph Storm.

In 54 NOJHL regular season game with the Thunderbirds, the 5’11” and 170 lbs forward led all Soo rookies and finished sixth overall on the Thunderbird roster with 12 goals, 23 assists, 5 power play and 2 game winning goals along with tallying 20 minutes in penalties. In Stevenson’s first post – season, the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native had 1 goal and 3 assists in four play-off meetings.

Thunderbird coach Jordan Smith told Saultsports.com that “We would like to congratulate Keegan on signing with the OHL’s Guelph Storm. This is the first step of reaching his long term goals, and he will bring a good work ethic, character and attitude to a blossoming young Storm team.

“Being able to play for an OHL team has always been my dream growing up, singing with the Storm is just the beginning and I am very grateful and excited for my upcoming future. I’m going to be working my hardest to bring my best for the Storm” said Stevenson.

Storm general manager Mike Kelly told us that “Keegan was probably under exposed in his draft year due to injuries. With his December 31 birthdate and recent growth spurt, we think Keegan’s upside is unlimited. We are thrilled with his development with the Thunderbirds. He skates well and has above average hockey sense and skill. We project, that in the future, Keegan will be a first line OHL forward, whether that be at the center or wing position.”
