Third for Jackson, Fourth for Hearty at Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway

With the 2015 finished in Northern Michigan and Northern Ontario, Team Jackson and Mike Hearty from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario hit the highway over the September 25th – 27th weekend to take part in the Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway in Barrie, Ontario.

The 15 year old Dustin Jackson entered the Velocity 250 with finishing the 2015 racing season standings with a fourth place standing at Laird International Raceway, tenth place ranking at Kinross Speedpark with only running a few races at these tracks while a ninth place in the Top Speed Modified Tour (North) division.  Hearty did most of racing throughout Southern Ontario and Michigan throughout the 2015 season.

Hearty and Jackson took to the track in Barrie on Saturday to race in the heat races for a qualifying position for the main 40 lap race Sunday afternoon. In qualifying on Saturday, Hearty took second in heat one and eighth in the second heat to have the Sault Ste Marie to start at the tenth position on the outside while Jackson’s heat race win put the 15 year old starting on the inside of the second row in third.

In a field of 23 cars, Hearty brought home a fourth place finish with Jackson finishing one place ahead of Hearty in third.

Mike Hearty told Saultsports.com that “I am pretty sure that my car was fastest car in the field and this was my race to win, but some cautions hurt near the end and one of the front cars was all over blocking forward progress near the end. I will round out my 2015 racing season taking part in the 2015 Autumn Colours at Peterborough Speedway over the Thanksgiving weekend.”

The car was a rocket ship thanks to the guys the whole weekend! Unfortunately the track tightened up a lot in the feature and was fighting the car, but after falling back to seventh I was happy to battle back to third! With 23 modifieds at such a huge event,” said Jackson.

When asked about his plans next season, Jackson said that “we haven’t made our mind up for next year but were seriously considering super late model racing! Going to be tough with a tight budget for Team Jackson.”
