This coming Saturday the juggernauts of the Northern Football conference (GTA All-Stars) will host the championship game in Brampton against the Tri-City Outlaws to see who moves on to represent the East in the National Championship game. GTA will attempt to claim their third straight conference title, and second national title in three years.
Standing in their way is a team familiar to the Sault area. A long time Steeler rival in the Tri-City Outlaws, led by rookie head coach and former player Gary Hudson. Now in the final week on the 2017 NFC season, the Steelers continue to build towards 2018.
After taking a one year hiatus from play, the Steelers have been hard at work, rebuilding and stabilizing their franchise for the future in an attempt to not only return to the field, but regain their National Championship form. With one week still remaining in this year’s playoffs, the Steelers already have 11 players signed and committed for next season. “Last year in training camp, we failed to get 20 committed players in the weeks leading up to the season opener,” said Steeler Jonathon Bujold. “Considering we’re 9-10 months away from action and already have half of that number committed, I think there is plenty of reasons to be optimistic.”
This week Steelers Recruiting Liaison Tom Peer signed four more players, officially signing running back Steve Hiiemaa, as well as Ryan Alexander, Theo Barry, and Ray Von Hammerstedt.
Peer hopes to have a minimum of 25 committed players in time for the League’s Winter meeting in Sudbury on November 18 th , and 45-60 players signed in time for training camp at the end of April 2018.
Complete list of signed players so far includes;
- Brandon Lewis
- Tom Peer
- Alonzo Clark
- Jonathon Bujold
- Steve Hiiemaa
- Darren Vlassoff
- Bill McGaughey
- Ryan Yost
- Ray Von Hammerstedt
