In the morning draw of day 2 at NOSSA curling, two local teams suffered their second losses and were eliminated from the competition.
Superior Heights Girls lost in an extra end to Sacre Coeur. The game had been tied 5-5 after 8 ends of regulation play. In the extra end, Superior Heights were lying two buried behind guards but lost the game when Sacre Coeur made a perfect draw to the button for the 6-5 win. White Pines Boys played St. Charles this morning and were defeated by a score of 8-2.
St. Mary’s Boys remain undefeated and are just two wins away from the championship. They will play Widdifield at 10:00 am and a team yet to be determined at either 12:40 or 3:20.
The St.Mary’s Boys are NOSSA Curling champions after going undefeated through the two day competition that was held at the Idylwylde Curling Club in Sudbury.
The St. Mary’s Boys defeated Central Algoma Secondary School in the championship final. The team, consisting of Skip Nick Lemieux, Vice Jacob Reid, Second Andrew Berg, and Lead Taylor Longo were up 3-2 after 3 ends when they took a huge 5 point end to pull ahead 8-2 after 4 ends of play. CASS conceded the game after 7 ends and the final score was 8-4.
Earlier in the day St. Mary’s defeated Widdifield 9-5 to advance to the final.
The St. Mary’s Boys curling team will now compete in the OFSAA curling championships being held March 22nd – 25th in North Bay.
