The St. Mary’s Boys Curling Team is 3-1 after day two at the 2017 OFSAA Curling Championships being held in North Bay.
The team, consisting of Skip Nick Lemieux, Vice Jake Reid, Second Andrew Berg, and Lead Taylor Longo split their games on Day 1, losing to Georgian Bay DSS 7-5 and defeating Aldershott High School by a score of 8-4.
St. Mary’s came out strong in the second day of competition on Thursday. They started the day with a solid 4-1 win over Almonte DHS in a game that began with 3 blank ends. St. Mary’s stole 2 in both the fourth and sixth ends, forced one in the seventh, and ran Almonte out of rocks in eight for the victory.
Stolen points were also the key to controlling the game In their second win of the day over Port Perry HS. St. Mary’s followed a single in the first end with a steal of one in the second and a huge steal of three in the third. They forced one in the fourth and took two more in the fifth. Port Perry conceded when they were forced to just another single point in the sixth end. The final score was 7-2.
St. Mary’s will finish pool play Friday morning when they will face Central Huron Secondary School who also has a record of 3-1. A win in that game would put St. Mary’s through to the play-offs.
