Spirit Edge Greyhounds in Saginaw in OHL Exhibition Action

In their first game of the 2017 – 2018 season, the Soo Greyhounds hit the road to open their exhibition season in Saginaw against the Spirit on September 2nd at the Dow Event Center.

Veteran Morgan Frost opened the scoring for the Greyhounds 15:53 into the first period to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. Conor Timmins and Holden Wale had the contributor on Frost’s goal. Shorthanded, rookie Keeghan Howdeshell the Greyhounds goal for the second of the game unassisted 2:57 into the middle stanza to give the Soo a 2 – 0 lead. Saultite Nicholas Porco brought the Spirit within one at 14:10 of the second with a pass from Saginaw’s Max Grondin.

Bringing the game to 3 – 1, Greyhound veteran Jack Kopacka finds the back of the Spirit net with an unassisted marker at 2:16 of the final period. Brock Hill and Hayden Davis register the helpers on the Spirit second of the game with a goal behind Greyhound netminder Matt Villalta at 3:58. Grondin evens the game 3 – 3 at 4:13 of the period with Porco and Ryan Stepien drawing the assists for the Spirit. With twenty seconds left in the contest, Damien Giroux fires the game winner for the Spirit to give Saginaw a 4 – 3 win over the Greyhounds. Dj Busdeker and Marcus Crawford drew the contributors on Giroux’s game winner.

The Greyhounds return home to host the Spirit in a 4:07 p.m afternoon matinee at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie.
