Soo City United U13 Girls Suffer First Defeat of the Year in Semi-Final

The Soo City United U13 Girls suffered their first loss of the season, in over 20 matches, at the hands of the Belleville Comets. In a semi-final match in the Georgetown Eustace Collins Memorial Tournament this past weekend, the Soo girls fell a bounce short. In a back and forth rugged game the Soo girls weren’t able to capitalize on their chances and fell 1-0. Soo City United is the newly branded name for the previous rep soccer program known as Civics.

Until this loss, the girls were having another outstanding weekend as they were determined to try and bring home their second tournament championship in 2 weeks, having previously captured gold at the Cambridge United tournament.

The girls first game of the tournament started with a 1-1 tied against the eventual tournament champion, Hamilton Sparta. Remy Delorenzi scored the equalizer for the Soo, as Hamilton had earlier potted a marker on a penalty shot.

Game two had Soo United square off against the North Mississauga Panthers. After a scoreless first half, the Soo girls started to roll. Paris Von Stach scored twice for the Soo and Kassie Sartor added a single to stop Mississauga 3-0.

After only a two game round robin, the stage was set for the quarterfinals.

Sunday morning had Soo United U13 girls line up against Brampton. Once again, the score was 0-0 at half and once again the Soo girls responded in the second half. Bianca Spadafora, Kassie Sartor, Remy Delorenzi and Amy Dodson handled the scoring as Soo United eliminated Brampton 4-0 and earned the team a spot in the semi’s and another shot for a final.

Goaltending duties for the tournament were shared between Jasmine Morton and Taelyn Santos.

Other members of the club include Ava Evans, Samantha Mazzuca, Sydney Czop, Megan Bassanello, Paige Gazankas, Brooke Brazeau, Madelyn Clement, Ally Nott, Carly Coccimiglio and Gabby Baril.
